Osama bin Laden is DEAD

Bin Laden's body was brought to Afghanistan and "buried at sea" from aboard the USS Vinson after a ceremony was held in accordance with the Islam culture.

My opinion- he's in a freezer in the bottom of the Pentagon. Or in the warehouse at the end of Indiana Jones. I find it peculiar that the body would be dumped less than 7 hours after the capture..... I understand the 24 hour ritual, but 24-7= 17 more hours to study/examine/prove it really was Osama.

Oh well, as Scoutpilot said, we'll never know.

I've heard they used DNA from his siblings to confirm it was him. My only regret is that I wasn't on that team who took him down; had to have been the most awesome mission ever...

I think they probably could have captured him, but whatever force killed him made an executive decision to kill him so that he wouldn't go through the legal system. Who know's, he could've been treated like on of those GITMO detainees and maybe even drawn some sympathy. Good thing they just killed him.

I'm also betting that they just said they 'buried him at sea' so that no one in the media would be bugging to see the body. It was a smart decision.

Word on the street is that he was given the option to surrender, but refused. Then it was lights out.

I agree that it was a good call for the guys on the ground to take him down on site.

I can't wait to hear the story of this mission. However, we're probably going to be 50 when we hear it unless there's an intel breach. The story's probably locked up sooooo tight.

This is a really interesting article:

If you have a couple of free minutes, I highly suggest you to read it. Sums up any "reason" the U.S. might have had to kill him instead of arresting. Sure there is a point or two that need to be clarified, but I think that's a pretty good article.

My reaction when I heard the news:
As an American - woo hoo!
As a parent of an USMA cadet- glad he was at WP on such a historical occasion and experienced the celebration that went on there.
As a FFR - I bet USNA applications will skyrocket in the next few cycles
