What type of items would a plebe have to buy out-of-pocket? Thanks.

Ex. Ive seen many recommendations to get new running shoes to bring for Plebe Summer. (I know they have to be broken in before)

Long Johns, hand/foot warmers, cleaning supplies, sunglasses, a great watch, dorm room fan, blanket, iPad/Apple Pencil, app for note taking, extra blouse & trouser from thrift store for swimming, haircut tipping, gifts for sponsor family, running shoes, refundable & changeable plane tickets at Thanksgiving & Christmas (possibly spring break), food when they miss dinner due to long sports practices, ear buds, hygiene items, cold medicine……

As a Plebe, you may need to purchase certain personal items out-of-pocket, such as toiletries (shampoo, toothpaste, etc.), laundry supplies, extra socks and underwear, stationary and writing materials, sunscreen, and any specific personal hygiene products you prefer. Additionally, you might want to invest in a quality water bottle, durable backpack, and comfortable undergarments for daily wear. It's always a good idea to check with upperclassmen or the academy for any specific recommendations or requirements.

Sorry if I'm out of pocket here, but.... are you a real person? What's with the sketchy link at the end of every post?

Plebes can survive with no external support. Do they appreciate the random $20 gift card? Yes.

Less is more. This is where our awesome supportive parenting needs to transition to less. Less is more. They figure it out.

Just my humble opinion and experience. My firstie just found out tonight he got his dream grad school. He isn’t calling me for help. He is working his awesome USNA network for rentals and contacts. It is no longer my issue to work or solve. And I know USNA has provided all the resources necessary for him to work this angle.
