I got invited to an overnight visit and I plan to attend. I went to a CVW for USNA. Are the experiences similar? What should I expect at West Point?

An overnight visit at USMA might be a little different than before last weekend. Plebes get to "fallout" as a reward for the football victory over Navy; you won't see plebes cupping hands, squaring corners, etc as they walk in the barracks area.

A cadet that did overnights at USMA and USNA last year told me the visits were similar, but that the regimen at USMA seemed stricter.

You'll get a chance to see, taste and smell whats behind the granite walls. But what is really important you'll get an opportunity to meet with an admissions representative to review your file with them. They also get a chance to meet you and connect a name to the face.

My son loved his overnight at WP, and knew for sure he was choosing WP over both USNA and USAFA when we picked him up the next morning, and indeed was told by his RC that morning that he was receiving an appointment. You will do everything with your host cadet (maybe it will be my son). you will eat with him, go to class, work out, attend formations (my son got yelled at by a Firstie for being out of uniform, and said he got real embarrassed thinking he did something wrong before the guy started laughing and told him, relax, I'm pulling your leg), and anything else that host cadet does that day. Enjoy it. You are fortunate to have the opportunity.

At what time during the year did your son attend his overnight visit? And is it guaranteed that I'll be meeting with MY regional commander or is it just by chance? Thanks!

Just by chance. My son met in early to mid January if I recall correctly.

.....but you don't need to talk to your RC. Whatever RC is on duty will talk to you, and give you candid insight.

Okay awesome! I will be headed up there for my overnight in Mid-January. It's too bad that I'll be speaking with the RC late in the application cycle since I can't really enhance my chances. But I still think it'll be beneficial.
