Yeah...that's the ticket. Plebe summer is like summer camp on the bay, and little yachting, swimming, rifle range...Think of it as an all-inclusive resort..
Yes -- 100% -- for sure. They were literally the only thing I brought (my folks mailed me some compression shorts the day after I-day) and per the excellent advice from Shiner and Old Navy BGO, less is genuinely better.I thought I had read that bringing some more broken in running shoes was a good thing.
Buy two pair that fit well. Put some miles on them to break them in just a bit. Wear one pair on I-Day. Have the other pair sent after ac year starts or brought on Plebe Parents Weekend. Alternate shoes for healthier feet as a good practice anyway.I thought I had read that bringing some more broken in running shoes was a good thing.
See this link for Class of 2024 as a general guide. 2025 will be put out as you get closer. Be sure to click on all the links.Does anyone know about when the packing list and other instructions are usually released, and where they'll be?
@Capt MJ is spot-on. The shoes will likely get drenched with sweat - good idea to alternate days so the other pair can dry. My DS wore his pair of broken-in shoes when he reported, and was issued two additional pair for running.Buy two pair that fit well. Put some miles on them to break them in just a bit. I like it. What in the world did she wear to I-Day?Way back on I-Day 2018, my favorite stop in the afternoon was at the Southwest corner of Bancroft (by the Submariner's monument) when they were offloading a big truck on the cul-de-sac there, with a fireman's line of Detailers. On the truck were the huge bags of crap that Plebes-to-be brought with them. The Detailers were taking them into Bancroft for storage until after Plebe Summer, and were visibly perturbed at how big these backpacks and duffle bags were. . One package stood out (I was standing right there, I could have been in the line) to me. It was a gallon-size ZipLoc bag containing only a 3"x5" note card with the Plebe's name and Company along with her watch, smart phone, and charger.
That was it. Let me tell you, that's the right way to go right there. If you need it, they will issue it to you.
@Devil Doc, I’m surprised a veteran such as yourself doesn’t already know the answer. Of course hair dryers are permitted. It helps prevent plebes from dripping their personal moisture all over the deck, which is highly discouraged. And it’s why they’re given 45 minutes to shower and primp each morning. What about my hair dryer? Can I take my hair dryer?
thank you for answering this - was just thinking I had read that they should bring gray compression shorts - I just read the permit to report packet that Capt MJ included and it says black or navy? any guidance from those who have mids now. I have a girl and she currently wears gray UA compression shorts for her sport and working outHere’s something that may seem minor now, but more important when you’re in the actual situation:
Go with gray if you plan to wear compression shorts under your summer whites (which you’ll get to don for the first time after a few weeks of plebe summer). Contrary to popular believe, white shows through more readily than gray. Plus, after a few weeks of sweat and grime, and several trips to the laundry, the gray will probably look better too.
DS brought black compression shorts in 2019-no issues. We send several more pair during Plebe Summer. Not sure when he got those but he needed many.thank you for answering this - was just thinking I had read that they should bring gray compression shorts - I just read the permit to report packet that Capt MJ included and it says black or navy? any guidance from those who have mids now.
