To the class of 2019 and their parents, there are approximately 90 Parent Clubs spread throughout the country. Your appointee has or will soon receive a privacy release form. Until the Academy receives it, the Academy can not notify the respective Parent Clubs about an appointee living nearby. Some appointees mistakenly think, "my parents won't be interested in that" and ignore it. Don't let that happen! Most parent clubs will soon be holding pre I-Day events (picnic, meeting, etc) wherein you can meet other appointees, appointee parents and the parents of current cadets. Many also have cadets on "ops" attend from nearby air force bases, so a handful of current cadets will attend as well. It is frequently said that being a parent of a cadet is akin to a roller coaster ride. Parent clubs can help you (the parent) through an otherwise bewildering experience and it's a great opportunity to meet people who will become very close friends. You can also search for your local parent club through the Academy website: http://www.usafa.af.mil/information/parents/clubs.asp

Thanks for posting this!

This is 100% true and your local Parent's Groups do some fun and helpful things even before you show up for I-day. For example.... In the next few weeks many of the groups have a summer picnic for new appointees and their families. It's a chance to speak with other cadets, ask questions, get tips first hand, and for your parents to get a ton of useful info on what they can expect the next four years.

So... check the box and allow USFAFA to release your info to the local parent's group; you'll be glad you did!

Question: I have been holding off on putting mine in because we are moving and it asks for our address which will son change. Should I still submit it, and if so, should I use our current address?

Bailey, if your family plans of having mail forwarded (like most do), then I would say go ahead and put your current address down. Also, once your family connects with the local Parents Club they can always update their address directly with them.

Bailey,
Go ahead and sign with the current address. You can always update in the future with Marie Nikovits and she will post your info with the new address (pm me if you need her info). Marie sends the all class list several times a year. Your parents can also check the AOG website for a list of all the parent clubs which will be a good way for them to connect also.

The Air Force Academy Parents Association of New Jersey is trying to connect with our Class of 2019 parents!
We have events coming up in June and July that are a great way to meet other parents and cadets.
Please contact us through our website: AFAPANJ.org

Central Texas Parent's Association is based in Austin - Round Rock and serves the inclusive area of Waco as the Northern boundary, Bryan-College Station to the East, San Marcos to the South and Fredericksburg to the West.

We are newly re-formed after a 5 year hiatus. We support Texas Night, gather to assemble goodie boxes and watch Air Force Football games. We meet quarterly and would love to have you consider joining our group.

We are hosting a send-off picnic for Class of 2019 Appointees at Camp Mabry in Austin on Saturday, 13 June. Visit our website for details ctxusafapa.org
