I’ve heard the term yet I have No correspondence regarding such a thing. Does anyone know if the parents also have a “portal” for more info other than what one can find on a not-so-up-to-date website? PS: I don’t have Facebook.

I have a 2024 and 2025 cadet and have not heard of a parent portal. Most of my information comes from cadets, facebook or emails from Deb Dalton. If you are not on her list get on it!

Deb Dalton is the official West Point parent resource. She works in the Public Affairs Office (PAO).

Here’s a letter of introduction from Deb, of particular interest to families of new cadets.

Not only did I not have a portal for USNA, I have never seen my son’s portal.

I did have access to his medical portal to review his med to make sure he did everything accurately and completely.

Great info - thanks! I've only gotten one email so far from Deb even as my son is inundated with paperwork - I just laugh and say welcome to the Army, son :)

Ha! My company vpn blocks Westpoint.edu!!! What a riot.

I didn't have Facebook until about a year and a half ago, when my oldest kid went to college. At that university, there was no way to navigate without being a part of their Facebook parents page.

Regarding West Point, in FB I'm on:

West Point Moms
West Point Class of 2027
Proud Moms of West Point Female Cadets, and
(my local WP parent club)

The groups are private, and there is a screening procedure so the people in those groups really are, and are only: WP moms, WP parents of 2027, etc.

It does not eat away at a lot of my time, and I've received lots of helpful info. I resisted FB for all these years, but I decided if I had to join that I was going to make it work for me and minimize it working against me. There are settings to keep me private, I did not use my first+last name, I did not "friend" anyone and I am unsearchable. I also log out every time I leave the site. Yet I can post and ask questions and I have also helped a few parents with questions they have had.

Looks like there's a West Point Dads, and West Point Parents, Grandparents and Relatives groups.

I know this is not what you asked, but I want to bring it up because of its utility. As an aside, it's helped me feel like I'm entering into a welcoming community.

Hope this helps!

Thank you. Very helpful.

There are also official social media sources. West Point will have their own. Whether you participate in them or not, they are (imo) a great source of info, pictures, etc. I would make an account just to follow them.

Are you a mom? Join us on WP Moms...also, also Mom or Dad, please join the official Class of 2027 Parents Page...you will need this for information and updates direct from USMA. (If you are a new WP Mom, drop me a DM...so the team will know to look for you.)

Hello…I am new here and would like to get more information about West Point as my son is in the class of 2027. I try to join the WP Moms and the official Class of 2027 Parents page in FB but still pending. Any suggestions on how to get approved for the groups? Many thanks!

Good Morning @Pegfan ...send me a DM here and I will look for you when you apply to the page. You have to answer all three of the questions. Also, we ask that you are a member of the official West Point Parents Facebook page for your cadet candidate's class. I am an admin so please reach out...we are busy talking about socks and the packing list!

You need 5 posts, a week onboard and time for the system to refresh before you can DM @DrMom bu then jump in her offer!

Is that the FB group that asks for cadet’s full name?

Yes, there are three questions that must be answered and the first question is actually three questions in itself.
However, we do not allow joint accounts (mom & dad/husband & wife). It is a page for women only just like the WP Dads page is just for men.

welcome and congratulations! sorry I have stopped being so diligent about checking this page since getting on on the fb sites. Yes, it does take a couple of days to get approved for access to those sites. Your son is fully accepted? Has he accepted his appointment? There is one group you can join as an undecided and another you can join once he has accepted his appointment. We are a new WP family as well (our son is 2027 too)- you will meet some folks who have sent multiple children to USMA and or other Academies who are a wealth of information but feel free to try me here with questions. One difficulty we are encountering is that all the communication is to our son through the "portal" to which we have no access. The upside is that he is fully responsible to keep up with all requirements / milestones along the way (as he has been throughout the 18month arduous application process). The downside is we are on these sites being flooded with information and much of it my son has already dealt with. The short of it is though, if he can manage the portal and he is sharing the information or asking for your help when needed, all will get done. Let me know if I/we can help with any questions and congratulations again!

Also, do not hesitate to buy Lisa Joiner's book: The West Point Mom's Survival Guide. It is available on Amazon. You can read the first couple of chapters now and then wait for your kid to disappear to CBT to read the rest....

Thanks for all your advice and support ! I got approved to the FB groups and got busy catching up all the previous posts especially the packing lists for R Day. So many new things to learn but feel relieved at the same time with this new supporting community!
