Hey everyone, I submitted my PCQ for the Class of 2027 on the USAFA portal on Thursday and was told to check the portal often regarding my status. I was just wondering, how long does it take for one’s status to be updated

This is the first post I’ve seen regarding questions for the class of 2027! How awesome! I don’t remember how long it took for USAFA to reach out and inform me of being upgraded to Candidate status, but regardless your candidate kit won’t open until around July anyways. There won’t be much for you to do until then. There’s a long road ahead of you but just enjoy the ride and learn as much as you can. I’ve found that applying to USAFA improves your applications to other institutions as well.

The next step doesn’t open until July. Unless you submitted something absolutely horrid there’s like no chance you don’t get candidate status so don’t worry!

I submitted my pcq for co 2026 on 11 may and received candidate status on 12 may. But like the other post said, it does not matter bc the app doesn’t open until 1 July. In the meantime, this is the email you should keep an eye out for…

I submitted my PCQ for the C/O 2026 on 15 March (the first day it was open last year) and I got the candidate kit letter (the one @I_Like_Coffee attached above) literally a couple of hours later. However, with all of the delays and troubleshooting going on with the current portal and the C/O 2026, I wouldn't worry too much if it takes them a little longer to get back to you. Best of luck!

Just wondering if you completed the SS application which served as your PCQ. Also do you have an Evaluator ALO listed. My DD’s is blank and she submitted her SS/PCQ the first day she could and has heard nothing about the candidate kit opening in July.

I completed the SS application and then the PCQ. I don't have an evaluator ALO, but I do have a mentor ALO listed. I also haven't heard anything about my PCQ being approved.

In the past at least, ALO evaluator won't populate until your applicaiton is completed and you reach the point for the ALO interview. A few years back, the mentor and evaluator ALO were usually the same person, but now they've given the duties to 2 different folks.

No lol, almost every person gets candidate status. Nothing you can do but wait anyway! I think last year only like 200 people out of 10,000 got their pcq denied. Admissions is very busy right now.

I submitted mine around the same time, I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA and did not submit my test scores because i’m working to get them a little higher than they are. My PCQ was denied and I was told to add my test scores and resubmit.

Once you are assigned an ALO, I recommend reaching out by sending an email.

I also recommend that you check your emails as often as your portal (at least once/week). Believe me when I say that its a good habit to get into, especially if you get an appointment. You don't want to miss anything important.

The candidate kit doesn’t open until July. Trust me you won’t miss out on anything on the USAFA end of things, your nomination sources might have their portals open before then but that’s rare.

Where we live in Florida, our MOC and senators open their portals between now and May. My son knew by Thanksgiving 2020 if he had any nominations.
