Heads up for parents. At the end of plebe year they will have accumulated a full year of gear including all summer and winter uniforms. When we picked up DD at the end of the year I had an SUV packed to the roof with a roof carrier also jammed full. For the next three years they can swap seasons and gear as needed with what they have stored at home. They can also get together with friends and rent some cheap storage in Annapolis. Sponsers can also sometimes help out.

Uniform Change. DD had an Australian Naval Officer as an instructor one year. At summer uniform change he showed up at class in his Summer Whites. Bermuda Shorts and white knee high socks. The old empire still does it with class. They did do away with the shako though.

DD had a company mate last year from the Royal Canadian Navy. When marching to the stadium on warm Saturdays, he stood out because of his pillbox-like cover, complete with chin strap, which he wore at a jaunty slant. That, along with his uniform, might have gotten him mistaken for a hotel bellman in an earlier era.

The Great White North can do it well with a lot of humor. Great Country and great people. Just don't litter when you are there and don't eat the french fries with gravy. From a lot of hockey trips I still stand for Oh Canada.

The increase in exchange Cadets/Mids I think is a great thing. We have always had International Mids who wear USNA uniforms and sort of blend in. They then go back to the countries and serve (some for really long commitments). The addition of semester and year long program from foreign service academies is great. You learn so much from all of them. I had an Intl Mid with 15 letters in their last name during Plebe Summer as a detailer. None of us could pronounce their name no matter what we tried. They became known as G14. You will even run into some of them as you travel the world at various exercises. They come back for reunions and really are a part of the Brigade. Most are wicked smart as they are truly the best their nation has and many have 10+ year commitments.

I had some German AF exchange students when I was at Keesler. Their uniforms were pretty bland. They told me that those were out of country uniforms since the actual ones brought up some bad memories for some people.

I was looking at the Plebe issue list in the Midshipmen Budget Book... does anyone know if we'll be issued over the counter allergy medicine, I should bring my own, or should I get a note from my doc like regular medicine?

You will be issued a bunch of OTC meds. During Plebe Summer you can also get them during Sick Call. During the Ac Year mids can also get OTC stuff free of charge from the Bancroft Pharmacy, they just need to get a script from a Corpsman in Brigade Medical next door.
