Good evening my friends, I'm back(briefly)...

I just got an official correspondence that I've been placed on the NWL. My understanding is that a fine candidate in my district has won my slate and will be offered an appointment. Congratulations to him/her!! They will make an excellent officer.

After some research I've come to learn that the NWL is comprised of only 150 other candidates(based off this quote-->"The National Waiting List is comprised of 150 very qualified young men and women, all of whom USMA wants but cannot offer an appointment to at this time."). I'm extremely thankful to be considered among these candidates, but I was hoping someone could give me a bearing on my chances(statistically) moving forward.

Does anyone know roughly how many candidates will be offered an appointment out of the 150 on the NWL? I initially thought there were hundreds of candidates on the NWL and 150 would get offers.

Thank you for any answers or comments you may provide

Sean

Everyone is on the NWL. As MOC appointments are made, the appointee is removed from the NWL, as are other appointees. After all appointments from all nominating sources are made, by law the top 150 from the NWL will receive an appointment. The rest of the class is chosen from the NWL, by the academy, in any way they want.

Bottom line, in one sense the answer is 150+. In another sense it's 100% will come from the NWL.

And, to answer your question, there is no statistic for the ‘moving forward’ piece.

Quick Question,
When does a large wave of acceptances come out usually? I know it said March 1- May 1, but is there usually a day where a lot of offers go out?

I'm wondering about that too. My 3Q letter also said most appointments will be offered Mar 1 to May 1 but based on the appointment list that I see right now, I don't think what they're officially saying is true.

This seems to be a very different year, so past admissions cycles may not be relevant. Traditionally there was a 1st wave sometime early to mid February, followed by a 2nd wave several weeks later. These were accompanied by photos on social media showing boxes of BFE's ready to go out.

To the OP: your information is incorrect. The number on the NWL is in the thousands, not 150, and many more than 150 will be appointed. Also, unless someone from your MOC's office or your RC told you someone else won the slate, that assumption may not be correct.

There are several recent threads on the NWL that go into more detail.

I forgot about the infamous "BFE ready to mail" picture! Great memory.

Weird how candidates are getting different dates on their 3q letters. Mine states: "Most appointments will be tendered between 26 February and 1 May 2021." could this be because I turned in my application early? (I got my 3q letter in October)

Around your timeframe, I got my 3Q letter in the beginning of November and it had no specific dates besides saying "Although most offers of admission will be tendered before 1 May 2021, final selection from the waiting list may be made only a few days before the class enters" must be different wording based off each RC maybe?

If you could provide stats, we could generate a more accurate assumption of your chances of appointment. However, there is realistically nothing you can do to increase them either way so don't worry! USMA will choose you if they want you!

Mine says March1-May1, even though I submitted my application very early - I was pretty much done in September, but my CFA (I submitted in August) stayed yellow till beginning of January.... then it turned green and now says pass.... My 3Q letter came mid-January.... sitting...waiting... hardest part. I thought getting organized with the application would be the hardest part - it wasn't, then I thought taking SAT several times during COVID would be the hardest part - it wasn't, looking for a way to get CFA done was really tough - couldn't find a gym or a person to administer it- COVID; but the hardest part of the whole process is waiting.... This forum helps. Thank you, everyone, for your knowledge, encouragement and wisdom.

Suggestions:
Focus now on plan b and c. Reapplication is an option. AROTC 3rd board is coming up. Laser focus on EA action colleges. Continue workouts and improve on all events. Only months away from fall semester... enjoy time with family.

DD received 3Q and NWL letter on feb 8 and received appointment letter on feb 19th. This may not be the case for everyone as she had a pnom.

Most 3Q letters are generated by RC's and may vary slightly by region. That is why you see different dates, but there is no substantial difference between February 26 and March 1st.

If your Congressperson did not do a PNOM, is their entire slate put on NWL? my understanding is that once qualified, everyone goes on NWL but if you have a PNOM, your tenure there is very brief....does that sound right? So if my DS is just on a slate with no PNOM, then all that are qualified go on NWL and selected based on candidate score?
