Hi! So I’ve posted about how I’ve used marijuana before and decided to stop and how I plan to be honest about it and what not. So now that I know I’m going to be honest about it and hope I don’t get DQ’d, the best case scenario there is that they don’t DQ me and that I’m provided security clearance in future positions despite the dumb mistakes I’ve made as a teenager. However, I’ve been think about what would happen if I was honest and they disqualified me. Could anyone tell me around when USMA would ask about drug use? I’ve been clean for a while so I should pass any drug tests on R day, but I’d like to know when they’d ask me about it. And when would they decide whether I’m disqualified or not after I tell them? Do they not ask at all? My biggest fear is that I commit to USMA and decline my acceptances to other good colleges, they ask me about drug use sometime during my first year, I am disqualified, and then I’m left without a college to go to after I’ve worked so hard in high school to have amazing grades and extracurriculars to be accepted into top ranked schools. If I am DQ’d, will I be able to transfer out? Will they let me finish that semester? Does it look bad to other colleges that I’m transferring out of West Point? Will USMA tell colleges WHY I was DQ’d? Any help would be much appreciated!!

I think it's in the actual application. At least it was for ROTC a while back. In any case, they dont DQ folks after they have reported unless there is a severe injury or illness the prevents them from completing the program

The security clearance will be underway shortly after you are offered an appointment and accept same. If you don’t accept the offer, they won’t do a security clearance. The drug testing will occur when you arrive for R-Day or within the next few days. Then, regular samples given in subsequent terms. If you are honest as you say you will be, you won’t need to worry if appointment is offered and not rescinded because of inability to gain security clearance. What you’ve described should not become a problem unless WP doesn’t like your application. And, that’s not what you are talking about here.

Given your level of concern, see threads on keeping a plan B in place. If you do that through Beast, you can stop worrying. But, really, you are probably over thinking it.

Again, the only way you will find out accurately is to talk with your Admissions Officer. DoDMERB is NOT going to DQ you. No one on this forum, even Field Force Officers will no for sure in your case.

It is in the actual application, in the dodmerb questionnaire and possible to come up in the security inquiry.

At some point, you will complete an SF-86 in some form online as your security info questionnaire for your first baseline security clearance. Scroll to the section in the 100’s pages on drug use. You’ll be answering those questions. Note too family and friends listed. Eventually, they will be interviewed about you.
