Returning senior to a certian wrestling All boys high school in Northeast Ohio. 3.7GPA, NHS member, student ambassador, varsity football letter winner, Boy Scout current rank of life(also senior patrol leader). SAT scores are as followings 500 math, 570 CR, and 510 writing ( I know there kinda low), FCA member, and Service club member, also attended the NYLF DID in the winter.

. Next years courses include Physics, pre-calc, AP Engl., AP US Gov. , AP Comp. Gov.
P.S anyone know when the college board sends out AP grades.

Thanks again any feed back would be great.
I would like to apply for the USMA class of 2012
-Anyone know when West Point sends out there applications.
I did my DODMERB eye exam yesterday. Someone said that they got their USMA application around the time they got their DODMERB app.

raise your SATs to around 600 math/verbal
And make sure to apply for an ROTC scholarship to your second choice college as a backup. AP grades should have already been sent out by now. Your extracurriculars seem good and your 3.7 is good.

Thanks. I have already taken the SAT twice and I am finding it hard to raise my scores. I am also looking into SMC such as the Citadel and VMI.

If a career in the army is what you want Norwich has probably the best AROTC battalion in the country, they send the most cadets to army training schools and commission the most 2nd lieutenants (3/4 of which get their first choice mos) of anyplace aside from USMA. And if the SAT is proving difficult try the act.

Try the ACT. Many students have better results in one test or another. And remember that WP will take the highest subscore in both the SAT and ACT which could help improve your composite score. You have lots of time to prep over the rest of the summer.

Good luck!

Is the 29 a composite score? West Point looks at the subscores - English and Math - I believe. By the way - starting with the class of 2012 if you take the ACT you must take the writing portion as well.

A 5 on the AP US History exam will look good on your transcripts.
Sounds like you really need to get the math score up. West Point is extremely math/science based - even if you major in History.

Practice, practice, practice - both SAT and ACT and take them both again and again if needed. Good Luck.

Not sure about WP but for USNA it is huge. Also, if on your application you are not quite there yet, don't forget to update your profile when you get it. Admissions will not acknowledge it fully until you are actually an Eagle.

Yes, West Point likes Eagle Scouts - get huge leadership points for it.
If your test scores don't rise enough then it could put you in the running for Civil Prep or USMAPS.
West Point also likes football players - they actually rank the sports that you are involved in and you get more points for being in an aerobic team sport - like football. Sports like football, soccer, lacrosse, basketball and field hockey for girls rank really high. Sports like track, tennis, softball and baseball rank lower (unless you are a recruit, obviously).
So your athletics and leadership look good -especially if you pursue that Eagle.

update

Hello all I just heard from DODMERB that I have been medically qualified by USMA.

Also recieved a letter from army ROTC saying I am in the final stage before recieving a 4 year scholarship ( saying I need to meet with the Professors of MS at my schools of choice and take a PT test and then I am done).

All my DODMERB evaluation said was US Military Academy - Qualified
does this carry over for AROTC ?

When you are entered into the DoDMERB system by AROTC then you should be found qualified for that program as well.

hopefully I will get recruited by army. I have talked to their coaches multiple times. I am also applying to the The Citadel and John Carroll. The Citadel is my second choice.

That is great! If you are a soft-recruit that can still help you but you need a strong package regardless. Do a good job on your nomination package and make sure you stay in touch with your Regional Admissions Officer. Until the coach asks you to sign - don't slack off in any admissions area. If you get an appointment and aren't officially recruited you can still walk on to the football team.

Is The Citadel recruiting you? And John Carroll - a Jesuit school, well sounds like you have 3 great choices. Keep on keeping on. Good Luck

Does anyone have any idea where swmiming ranks on the list. And since track is lower are they looking at it as to what kind of events you'r in ie: sprinter, distance or field. I do distance and if anything that seems like it would be very beneficial since on the admissions site it cites running as one of the things to prepare physically for WP.

dude, dont worry about these formulas for success to get in; if you run distance, all it means is you can smoke the 2 mile which will be what you run for your PT test at West Point and in the Army. If you're fast (and I mean really fast, I ran 10:40 2 miles in high school and that wasnt good enough to make the track team at WP), you might get picked up for corps squad. Bottom line is, work hard, have fun, and do what you want to in high school, and you will stand a good chance of getting in if you're what they want. Dont spend too much time trying to figure out exactly what the man wants you to do.
