DD requested pass for Columbus day weekend and was denied. She is a member of E Company that was honor company during beast. Her TAC which is newer said he never heard of such a thing and denied most of her Company while the 3 other E companies received pass most for being honor platoon. She is not going to revisit this request as she is not one to rock the boat. She is on Corp Squad and has STAR game coming up--it was my understanding that a victory in a Corp Squad STAR game earns pass? However she says that her friend who plays Rugby did not earn pass for their victory. I am guessing earning pass for things like Honor Platoon and Corp Squad victories are not definitive and at the discretion of the TAC? Can anyone confirm. She is in good standing with no honor board issues and her 6 week grades are decent.

First person to contact is Team Leader to initiate and follow up on the chargeable pass. We ran into the same issue but pass was granted at the very last minute. The Team Leaders aren't always well schooled in this procedure it seems but it might well be new to them. If the Plebe is insistent it will usually be taken care of. If a Company has misbehaved there is always the option of group denial...

Different companies have different standards as far as how well a cadet can physically or academically perform in order for her pass to be approved. It is possible your daughter is in a company with very high standards or a really strict TAC—I could not tell you what the actual issue is since there are too many variables.

What I can tell you, however, is that your daughter can earn a performance pass if she signs up to watch an honor board. They are 55 minutes long and slides with details about them are posted in the mess hall. Because this pass is guarenteed to be added to her pass balance, I think she’d have a better shot at getting one of these approved.

DS requested pass for Columbus Day just over four weeks out and did not have it approved until Friday morning when his brother and I were already at the airport about to fly there. It took him talking to his TAC a couple of times seeing what needed to be done for it to be approved for them to come through with it. If it hadn't been approved we would have become very knowledgeable with Highland falls for a couple of days.

In speaking with others parents whose Plebes are in various Companies, it seems like very last minute was a common theme for Columbus Day.

Quite fond of American Burrito just outside the gate:)

My DD's pass was uncertain until Thursday before Col Day weekend, but a fellow parent had told me that there was some process by which a cadet could apply for a pass that had to do with visitors traveling from a distance to come to WP. Not sure how that works, but suggested it to me. DD didn't need to see about that, but am curious of anyone knows anything about that.

Yes, a pass is much more likely to be issued for a long weekend if a family has traveled at expense. But it is not a matter of course. It can be a one time deal until any issues are corrected. But the TAC will make it clear to the Plebe when doing so.
