Does anyone have any recommendation of a good inexpensive place to stay for plebe parents weekend? Hard to find anything that won't break the bank. Would really love to have somewhere that I could prepare a home cooked meal, but anything will do. Also, do the plebes get to stay with us? Cant remember where I had originally found the schedule, and also what time and date they have to report back.

Thanks so much! I could not make it through all of this without friends on the forum!!

"...good inexpensive place to stay for plebe parents weekend? Hard to find anything that won't break the bank."

Need some idea of what you consider "good inexpensive" and "won't break the bank."

"Also, do the plebes get to stay with us? "

It's my understanding that they need to report back each night - although I did hear that one year they were granted an overnight - from my research that seems to be very rare.

Also, we have rented a house - and depending on the number of rooms you need, this might be cheaper.

We rented through the vbro site:

And there is also Annapolis Accom:

Here's a link to a web site that we used.

They have rental houses. I have heard good things about them and so far have been wonderful through the reservation process. The homes start around $250.00 a night and have a three night minimum. For us, this was a less expensive way to go b/c we would need two hotel rooms anyway and would have to eat meals out. We are bringing the two younger sisters as well. This way we can spread out, cook meals and Plebe can bring another Plebe along if someone is without a parent for the weekend.

Here is some info I copied from last year's PPW postings:

Mids will be free for Town Liberty on Friday after noon formation. You are invited to dine at King Hall for the Friday noon meal but reservations are required! Please check with your Mid before you commit to dining in King Hall. Your Mid may not wish to do this, and after all, this weekend is more about your PLEBE than it is about YOU. Saturday morning there will be a Dress Parade on Wordon Field. Liberty begins after the noon formation. Remember, your Mid must return to the Yard each evening. Make sure you allow extra time for the return trip. If you do not give yourself enough time you will find traffic will be horrible at all gates and many Mids are forced to leap from cars and run back in order to be back on time. You may want to return earlier, park in the parking garage in town and make a leisurely walk back to the Yard so that you have time to say good-bye. On Sunday your Mid will have Yard Liberty in the morning and, after noon formation, Town Liberty until 1800 (6:00 PM). There will be a mandatory meal formation after the expiration of liberty - one last chance to see your plebe.

* Plebes have to go back each night.

* I think you will hard pressed to find a full kitchen for less than ~$250 per night. (That's not reasonable to me!)

* The hotels near the Annapolis Mall and the Riva shopping center are less expensive and really away from the Yard, which I suspect is a plus from the Plebe viewpoint.

* Are you driving? Maybe you could bring your plebe's favorite food and reheat in a microwave. Might be a hassle if you're flying, though.

As much as I wish I could slow the next month down, I'm in a hurry for PPW!

Another thought if you don't care what hotel you are at is to use Hotwire or Priceline.

We are staying at the Residence Inn, Annapolis and it has 1 and 2 bedroom suites with full kitchens for $219 (2 b/r) or $139 (1 b/r) per night during PPW.
They both also include a hotel Continental breakfast and free high-speed internet.

Annapolis is a fairly expensive town and the hotels obviously know when the big events occur. As with most things in life, you trade convenience for price. Thus, if you want a hotel w/in walking distance of the Yard, you'll probably be paying upwards of $200/night. If you're willing to drive a bit, there is a Super8 and others that will be cheaper.

You have to consider that the further you are away, the more complex logistics are. Thus, you and your plebe will need to start heading back much earlier, etc. And, it's harder to go back & forth from your hotel quickly to pick up stuff, etc. However, that's not a huge downside.

Dates for PPW

Are the dates posted for parents Plebe weekend? Coming from the west coast, should we get in Thursday morning (12th) or the Wednesday night? Anyone know? Please chime in. Thanks.

Parents' Weekend August 12th-15th.

Schedule of events will be available in July.

Also, please note that there is a new Dant and will be a new Supe. That can mean many changes between last year and this year . . . or not.

While I would expect PPW to remain generally the same, there could be a relaxation or tightening of certain rules. So, remain flexible.

We found an great rate last year at Springhill Suites in Annapolis ... stayed there for I-Day and Parents weekend ... (I think it was $120/night for 5 people)

We also found a good rate at Hyatt Place near BWI ... before I-Day (under $100)

For Herndon ... I paid $63 for one night at the Residence Inn ... got it through Priceline ... it's under 30 minutes on US 97 (20-25 w/o traffic)

there may be others check Priceline, Hotels.com etc ...

Good luck!
