Does anyone know when we can expect to see some pictures from plebe summer posted? I have a membership and can log in
but when I go to the link it states there is a problem. Should I assume it’s too soon?

There are pictures posted on the USNA flicker account now. If you bought Thornton picture package and are having issues logging in you will need to email him. We had lots of issues last summer. I spoke to him several times. He also takes a while to load photos. You can also see pictures through the alumni association once you join. Good luck and happy Waldo hunting.

Look for this year’s version of this link. It’s the USNA photo archive. Different from Alumni Assn, which is an independent non-profit.

It’s worth joining the alumni association for the photo program. You’ll need to be patient and persistent. The photographers can’t get to every company every day. And you’ll have to hunt for your plebe among the sea of white works. But it’s satisfying when you do catch a glimpse.

A great microcosm of the plebe-summer experience from the parental perspective: I’m scanning photos on the AA website when I spot DD…wait, is that her…I think so…could be…but, she’s on crutches! And that’s how I found out that she’d suffered a stress fracture. And it was another week before she could tell me about it during the scheduled phone call.

Yup, I thought, she belongs to the military now.

Where is the link after you pay?

There are photos up from I- day up on the Alumni site. I had issues too- email the the Alumni Association. There won't be anymore photos posted until after the holiday weekend. In the meanintime, the USNA FLickr referenced above has a good sampling of pictures.

My recollection for both of my Mids, and signing up for AA program, is that after you sign up, they physically process your account. So if you recently signed up (ie: at Iday), it may take a minute under these assumptions.

Thornton is frustrating at the get go. But his program got the best (and most) pics both years. You will most likely have issues as he doesn’t have a website, but rather uses a photo program and emailing as his ‘website’…which is ancient and ineffective (I cannot recommend his techno skills at all. Pics are worth the headaches, though. But that a whole ‘nother discussion. IYKYK). Point is, call right away with Thornton’s program. And his is best to use a desktop (that actually could be your issue).

Photos is another reason to join your parent club, and class FB pages. There will be informal discussion about who’s company was photographed on different days, etc. There will also be photos shared from parents/visitors to the yard (these can be shared. Purchased photo programs are not to be shared, for obvious reasons). There are a couple dedicated sponsors, who visit regularly, and kne in particular who gets fantastic pictures. For free. But those are for sure hit and miss. The two paid programs will find your plebe!!

Waldo hunting tip - when you do find your Plebe - take notice of the Plebes around him/her. Find the one that stands out - tattoos, very very tall, super blonde hair, glasses, on crutches (and there will be many on crutches) and then use that Plebe as a compass for future photos. The boy on crutches helped me so much during 2020 Plebe summer. I knew my Mid was coming up. They all look alike and that summer they were all wearing masks!

These tips are good. I was getting stressed that I had seen a few vids of DS company and had not found him. Figured they had Tango'd him already or something. And then on the 4th time through one video I spotted him running right in front of the camera!

^^^^^^^. Additional tip. At some point, they get their own running shoes back - look for the colors/brand (or another pair that stands out in the company)

While you wait…

This is one of my favorite video montages- great visuals of Class of 2019 I-Day, USNA life, all the possibilities that await them after commissioning.

At time mark 6:27, not long after that there is a shot of the doors closing.

It’s a good clip to share with family and friends as a “sample view” of how a Navy or Marine career starts at USNA, the wide range of careers, the beauty of the Yard, the omnipresent water factor, how special it all is.

Your sons and and daughters are starting a wonderful journey.

I've seen different colored shoes already, although my son is still running in the issued shoes.

YOU DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THIS GALLERY ☹️
Hmmm....I clicked the link from a Facebook page and fell right into the gallery. When I click from here I get a login page but there is a button to login with Facebook or Google. Do you see those login options?
