Plebes Dropping Already

Y'alls children are not suffering alone. This is the newly formed six week class at Field Medical Training Battalion-East at Camp Johnson, NC. I spent part of the 70s, 80s, and 90s at Camp Lejeune and I swear the Marine Corps pumps extra humidity into that swamp. I was also the Navy Medicine liaison to the Marine Corps for medical training and this is a Marine Corps Course of Instruction (COI). This is their first hike which is three miles and is used to access conditioning and to impress upon them the importance of hydrating. The next force march, hike, or hump as we call it will be six miles, nine miles, and then the final before graduation is 12 miles. They will also wear plate carriers and helmets. The blue rifle is regulation M-16 size and weight. The students range in pay grade from E-1 to Chief Petty Officer. I reached out to a contact and was assured they all wear face coverings when doing non-physical activities. The instructors in the middle of the formation are all Navy Corpsmen and Marines and they do most everything the students do except get hollered at which there is a bunch of.

Health Department closes Amish Market due to COVID violations - just saw this on eyeonannapolis.net
.
Poor Amish .... poor Mennonites too. There is this Planning and Hard Wood lumber outfit called Hicksville Planning in Hagerstown MD, owned and operated by a Mennonite family, extended family .... The place is a Wood Workers heaven, but if you are OSHA, it’s a problem. OSHA has been trying to shut them down for 50 years. I love the place. It’s paradise to me.

The Hacks of hard wood lumber species from all over the world, stacked to the ceilings in old barn outbuilding after outbuilding .... Sapele, Honduran Mahogany, you name, they got it .... and for a “Board-foot” great price.

Get them to Join stuff up for you too for a great labor price. A recent Sapele bookcase that I built several years back, that goes 10ft floor to ceiling, they Pre-joined the 2” Sapele columns for me, planed and shaped the tongue and groove back panels, and prepped the 1” shelving for me, for an incredible price. I did all the blind dovetails, sanded and finished it, and slipped all the pieces together.

I hope that Hardwood Lumber place doesn’t go away ... Too much regulation going on this country. How is anybody supposed to live?

Speaking of sports, how will sports period work this summer? Are Varsity teams able to meet/practice? Is that an NCAA thing, with conferences canceled? Are teams even on the yard presently?

No idea what is happening at USNA right now, but saw an interesting article online yesterday -- the Athletice Director commented that Navy, West Point, and Air Force have the unique ability to control their student bodies, and suggested that they could continue to play football even if everybody didn't. The article also suggested that the winner of the CINC trophy could be named National Champion if no one else shows.

I am sure that the risk/reward of college athletics is being evaluated (then revaluated as things change), but I think at least holding the Army Navy game would be a wonderful show of "normalcy" to the public and would also do a lot to promote awareness of the Service Academies. Of course, whether that reward is worth the risks is for people much further up the food chain to decide.

Sports period is a different intramural sport every day that the company’s plebes play with each other supervised by a TAD. There are limited opportunities at these times for virtual or in-person meetings with varsity coaches for those recruited or who plan on trying out.

Is that an NCAA thing? A COVID thing? A USNA thing? I’m curious bc there is so much going on in both worlds it’s hard to know.

Hi wayne323. I am a bit of a lurker here - don't post much. But my DD is a 2C (and current 1st set detailer). I have some info about club tennis for you. It's a co-ed club sport. Club tennis only started in Fall 2018 - by a Firstie who had played varsity tennis for two years, but had left the team her 2C year. My DD was one of the founding members - she was a competitive player in USTA junior tennis (3-4*), but did not want to play tennis at the D1 level. The club team is pretty good - their first year as a team they qualified and went to April 2019 USTA National Championship in Arizona. She's definitely enjoyed the practicing and traveling to weekend tournaments - hope your son looks into it this Fall.

Hi SouthernMom, thank you so much for the great information!
Started in 2018? so the co-ed tennis club is pretty new. That probably explains why the tennis is not listed in the sport website on USNA's sport page (https://www.usna.edu/Athletics/index.php).
The team must be very strong if it can make it to the Naitonal Championship. Is it D2 or D3 or others? Hopefully my son can make it!

Join the USNA Alumni Assn to gain access.

The USNA Alumni Assn and USNA Foundation are private independent non-profits, though closely associated with the government entity that is the Naval Academy. This is a benefit they provide with parent membership.

I signed up two days back using the link you provided, but still had no access to to site and parent photo program at this time.
Do I need to wait for the registration to be approved, or did I miss sth.? Since it is paid service, do I make payment after or before registration is approved?
