Plebes Dropping Already

I definitely think masks, emphasis on hygiene and social distancing has probably helped with hack. I also think we haven’t seen it as much yet as the first two weeks weren’t physically taxing. Their bodies are now feeling the effects of being pushed to the line and the break down of the body and being more susceptible to picking up the hack just is delayed this year. With Plebe Summer ‘ending’ sometime in the next week or two, they may not have the mass hack out break they usually get as reform will bring them back to a more normal schedule and less physically taxing. All good things in my mind for reform and the transition to classes.

Serious question here: will there be “payback” during the year towards the plebes? I could see that as a thing. Is that what you dd means @MidCakePa by “supplementary”?

Its unfortunate all around. My own guy is severely limited in what he is allowed to do. Detailers are restricted in what they can do to him. Due to COVID and it’s complications within his body.

Honestly it’s killing him to not be 100pct, and able to really be part of his company. Help them out. He has to sit and watch them. That is challenging, to, for someone who is conditioned and wired to help his team, especially physically (as a team captain does).

I completely agree: this was NOT a real plebe summer...

I don't think there will be "payback", but each company's training staff will not be doing their plebe class any favors by being light on them. Their job is to train them and help them become the best midshipman they can be and my guess is there will be some making up for trainings not perfected during plebe summer. These plebes will need to be game on because older mids will be looking for deficiencies (they always are), but this class has something to prove and in 4 years when they walk across the stage they'll be even more proud for overcoming this crazy situation.

### Resurrecting @Devil Doc ‘s classic thread … for one day maybe …. It set a record I think last year with over 507 posts.

… Anyway, it’s really Hot today in the Mid-Atlantic. Are the Plebes dropping today?

No doubt it’s indoor only, Black Flag protocol. I walked the dogs to the mailbox just now, and we are all having a meritorious water break, naps for them but sadly not for me.

An amazing run if I do say so myself. It's so hot out my pepper plants are complaining.

I don't know how I survived childhood in the deep south without air conditioning. Plus, we're getting hammered with afternoon storms. Yesterday's was a doozy.

I don't know how our kids here in the deep south play sports all through the summer. I used to coach youth baseball and I don't think I ever heard the kids complaining about the heat. Not even once. My DS is probably going to do NROTC in the South. But I think in NROTC they do most of their PT early in the morning (like at 0530), or in the evening. No one here in the South is foolish enough to be out mid-day any more than they have to be. You know the saying "Mad dogs and Englishmen . . . " Even at the Yard, they fly the black flag when it is too hot to be safe.

Well this was an interesting revisit!! NEVER would have thought we would be in a somewhat similar situation this year. Brought back some interesting memories for me, personally!! My (then) plebe is a whole different (now) Youngster. Strong and confident 😤

I am also Curious about Mids dropping. For different reason though as this was a ‘normal’ plebe summer. But this class is starting hard, having been sitting in their virtual classrooms for a year.

CHEERS 🍻 to the ‘21/‘22 AC year!!!!

When we were there last week, my wife and I realized that there has been perfect weather this entire summer. I wouldn't be surprised if this week is the first black flag conditions for PS, and it is already PPW.

I'm just happy for 2025 parents to experience plebe parent weekend. I know all classes have missed out on things. I thought I would be salty and bitter about missing so much. But, my MIDN is happy and doing MIDN things. I almost don't know what I missed at this point.

Cheers to the AC year!🍷⚓

They definitely paid this week for the nice weather. Black flag day yesterday for the PRT and today was downright salty. Good thing they only had to “work” this morning. T court was sweltering for noon formation
