What information will these two people be receiving and what is their purpose? I know we can put down anything from our senators to our parents but I couldn't find any information online or in these forms.
If it’s the POC I am thinking about, it’s what pops up in MIDS (Midshipman Information Data System) when someone from the USNA needs to contact the closest family member or person indicated by the mid. I am sure USMA has something similar for a cadet info profile accessible by staff and faculty.
For example, Midn X has not returned on Monday night after a long holiday weekend, and has not signed in at Taps or notified anyone in his or her chain or command. Phone calls and texts are not answered. Midn’s weekend request had requested to return 2 hours after Taps due to later plane flight back from grandmother’s funeral. Midn still not back. Chain of command up most of the night. Commandant notified. Roommates, teammates, friends are quizzed and have no intel. Security Dept Head checks local hospitals and contacts police at destination indicated on his request chit. Battalion Officer (yes, this is straight out of my sea story locker) looks up Points of Contact in MIDS, sees mom and dad, notes time zone, has a Navy chaplain to hand and calls the POC number at 7:15 AM on Tuesday. There is no easy way to say to a parent, “we are looking for your son/daughter.” I started off by saying to his mom I realized this was already a difficult time, with a family funeral over the weekend, but we were concerned that Midn X may have missed his flight back from the funeral and was delayed, could they help us connect with him. There was dead silence. Mom then noted there was no family funeral, her mother was very much alive, and she suspected he was off with his girlfriend at their beach house in NC, and she would be more than happy (said in Deadly Mom Tone) to give us the landline to that house. Dad came on the line and offered to go get his son and deliver him to us pre-chewed-out. Midn returned to USNA, having experienced extensive parental feedback, to face serious trouble, conduct because he got back late and didn’t call, honor because he lied about where he was going and why.
Points of contact are used for a variety of things, essentially a way for USNA to contact family if needed. Ditto all SA.
