Hi all.

My portal currently states that WP has official ACT scores from me as of 12/2019... even though I’ve never sent in my ACT scores because my SAT scores (which I did send in) are significantly better.

Might this cause any issues? And why might this have happened?

I have heard rumors before that WP admissions will use ACT over SAT which would cause problems for me.

Thank you for any input... I hope it is nothing to be concerned about.

I believe they look at both ACT and SAT and determines which score is more competitive and then use that score/superscore. My DS submitted ACT w/ essay and SAT w/o essay. His SAT score was more competitive and was recommended to retake the SAT to get a essay score.

Check your transcript; they may be on there, which is why/how USMA has them?

My test scores do not show up on my transcript.
The only other possibility I can imagine is if you applied for an AROTC scholarship and submitted them as a part of that app? Maybe they were shared with USMA? I wouldn't worry about it as they will super score. They understand some kids do better (sometimes much better) on one test over another.

Edit: or the obvious explanation - if you didn't send them in and they aren't on your transcript - maybe there is a data entry error? Can you see the actual scores? My kid withdrew his West Point app after he was admitted ED, so I can't ask him to check his portal to see & can't recall if he could see if they entered actual scores on their portal or just noted the date of the score report. He had a data entry error on his USNA app for his CFA scores, so, it can happen.

I only submitted SAT to AROTC as well... haha. I reached out to my FFR about it though so hopefully that might get me an answer.

I don't think you should worry about WP seeing the lower ACT scores. The Admissions Team folks are very smart people, and they know quite well that many candidates will struggle with one type of test or sub-section of a test, but then excel at the other.

As I understand it WP will Super-Super-Score across all of your ACT & SAT test results. What that means is that they will cherry-pick the best section sub-scores from all of your ACT & SAT tests and credit only those best sub-scores toward your Super-Super-Score.

Here's an example, my DS' (USMA Class of 2023) took each test four times. His best SAT scores were 730-EBRW / 770-Math, and his best ACT scores were 35-English, 36-Reading, 32-Math & 33-Science. WP credited his Super-Super-Score with the 770 SAT Math and the 35/36 ACT English/Reading.

There are many tons of excellent FREE resources online that can help you boost your scores for future retakes. Check out this thread for more details. https://www.serviceacademyforums.com/index.php?threads/act-prep-help.70963/#post-699462
