Possibility of getting into NAPS with a nomination.

I just received a nomination letter from my MOC. He uses the competitive method instead of the principal method. I was wondering what the chances are of getting into NAPS with a nomination. Is it an advantage for NAPS to have a nomination? I'm physically and medically qualified with outstanding character and leadership ability, but I do believe that I would be suggested to go to NAPS for academics instead of an automatic appointment.

I'm currently in college and train for football as well. Should I get in contact with the coaches in case it raises my chances for NAPS?

Thank you very much in advance for this help.

Noms really have no effect on NAPS. You aren't required to have a nom for NAPS and having a nom doesn't make it more or less likely for you to be offered NAPS.

I would find it very surprising if a college student were offered NAPS as that program is typically for those who need additional academic prep to be ready for college. Since you're in college, I don't see why you would need more prep. I can't say it's never happens, but I would be VERY surprised.
