* Print the PTR Letter.
** Place one copy, 1st page, in Plebe to Be folder (second copy in parents backup folder).
*** Double check the night before driving to USNA.
**** When in line in front of Alumni Hall, be ready to show the PTR Letter to the staff (newly commissioned officers) in front of the door.

Be kind.
No escaping this on IDay... small kids usually cry (and moms too, but dads will always try to look macho). It's only temporary because comes PPW, everyone will be happy and laughing.

The plebe to be can write out some cards ahead of time to mail to the sib. They will have more time at home now than during the down time of plebe summer. They can leave space to add a line about the chow they are eating or something special like the fireworks on the fourth but the heavy lift will be done.

Make time during the phone call for the sib to have time to ask a question and get an answer without being interrupted. Hard to do when time is limited and everyone wants to say so much! Plan ahead!

Put them in charge of something…like mailing you printed memes. And be future oriented. “See you parents weekend. You are in charge of making sure my gaming system comes”.

It will go faster than everyone thinks.

It may old school but this worked with me. I kept in contact with my youngest sister by writing letters and sending post cards when ever I could. I think this helped her in elementary school with her writing, spelling and cursive writing. She had to express herself in answering all my questions when paper writing back. I gently corrected her when she addressed a letter to the "Navel" Academy. Hey, that's how one learns. The post cards told her that there was a world beyond the confines of home and elementary school. We still exchange post cards today.
Thank you for the responses. These are some really great ideas. One of my siblings is just a couple years younger than I am and there is a 6 year gap between the other one. I am worried about how this will affect them both, for different reasons.

Plebes will love receiving stuff. Memes, etc, can be shared with mates (and will be). News info is also money for plebes.

Adjusting to the new ‘nest’ isn’t unique to the older kids leaving home. But the new ‘nest’ soon adjusts to the new dynamic…it’s kind of nice for the new kids to be the ‘big kids’. They also are growing into their new roles.

It’s an adjustment. But a necessary and beautiful one. Bc it means mom and dad did a good job, and the entire family is growing in positive ways.

There is NOTHING I’ve experienced, yet, like PPW and the family hugs. Make sure and make it to that.

The dude has a 4-year old little bro (who was 3 when the mid entered the Academy) who worships him. I took the littlest dude with mid-to-be for drop off on I-Day, and the three of us hung out until his report time group was called. They got to spend a little time together there.

We did not bring the littlest dude to the oath ceremony, as it would have been too much with sitting around. He would have repeatedly tried to run and find the mid if he had the chance. Little dude fussed a lot and cried over the next few weeks occasionally saying he wants his <insert older brother's nickname> back. We just had to reassure him that he would get to see him soon enough and that he would be coming home for a few days later in the summer.

The phone calls were good to. Littlest dude was at least able to say "hi" and that he missed him, and when would he be home again? It was hard for him to get it, but as time went on through the year, he was better with it. Now, he just gets excited when the mid comes home, but doesn't fuss as much.

Each little one is different, so you have to do what makes the best sense for them.

Oh, and the 17 year old? He doesn't seem to give a s--t. And jokes more about how West Point and the Army are better (even though he can't join the military because of his ADHD/Depression/Anxiety, and is terrified of needles and blood). He's kind of an a--hole to the mid. Then again, he's kind of that to us as parents as well. :p

General anouncement for Class of '27 parents and supporters. If attending I-Day in person, get a print copy of The Capital Gazette the day after the swearing in ceremony. The local paper does a pretty good job of covering the ongoings at the Naval Academy. If you are unable to attend, consider an e-subscription here: Capital Gazette: Annapolis breaking news, sports, weather and traffic. They are currently offering a 4th of July rate of 4$ for a year. That will get you to Herndon next year. The Capital Gazette might give you some ideas on what to do, see, and eat when you're there in person.

Anyone have any thoughts/opinions on 20th company? Go Samurais!!!
You're in a heap of trouble. 20th Company's unofficial motto is, "flame on!" So, stand by for heavy rolls to port and starboard. Batten down the hatches. Check your seat belt and harness locked. I "heard" mids in that company aren't happy 'til you're not happy. Good luck!

I am kidding!!! Don't worry about thoughts and opinions of your company here.

Mr. Helpful.

Company reputations change all the time. As Mids graduate and are scrambled/shot gunned they change continually. Just like the fleet does. Don’t worry about what you hear. Plebe Summer sucks for everyone. Heck Plebe Summer even sucks for detailers. No sleep, it’s hot, they smell, and it’s a lot of work.

Haha understood!!

12th? My son just got assigned there 😀
I can’t release any additional information.

I would advise he should be taking his vitamins and saying his prayers. 😂 😂 😂

My son loved his company. :)

A little stressed. I have a waiver for self harm which was done over a year and a half ago. Yesterday during some pool basketball, I got scratched bad on my arm. I'm unsure of how this will look when I show up on IDay. Any recommendations? If its a concern I would do a polygraph or any sort of test to prove that it was just a scratch from one of my friends

Take a deep breath … keep your eyes focused on your next destination … and everything will work out just fine 😎

Proverbs 4:25-27
25 Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.
26 Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.
27 Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.

Could your friend write up a letter, and have it notarized?? And take it with you to have if needed?

NO CLUE if this will be an issue, or not. But you are concerned about it. So this would perhaps give you some piece of mind. Brainstorming here.

I have never heard of polygraphs administered as part of in processing.
