Post-Appointment Class of 2027 Hangout: PTR, I-Day, What To Bring, Leave Periods…all that endless new stuff

We got our first letter from plebe daughter yesterday. It was written over the course of three days. The main theme was lack of sleep and a desperate need for a long, hot shower. Once we pick her up during PPW, it will be a direct drive to our Aibnb for sleep, shower, and sushi and snuggles with her dog.
I put all our girl’s letters in binder. They are fun to go back and read. She will enjoy the long hot shower and sleep for sure!!

Another fun activity for PPW - walk around DTA and watch your plebe’s head turn on a swivel looking for detailer spies.
And hear them turn toward shipmates hollering out their last name. “Hey, _____,” followed by knowing glances and nods.

I think they’re well into ac year before they know the first names of everyone who was in their PS platoon. 😉

True fact! Takes everyone a while to get used to addressing their fellow plebes by their first names.

They might not be in the habit of calling people by their first names but KNOWING the first name of
everyone in their platoon was a plebe rate for many years. Actually, It was required knowledge by the
end of I Day. We also had to know everyone in the Squad's hometown by the same deadline.

Unless things have changed.. Detailers aren't hanging around DTA looking to mess with Plebes. That said, after being under the Detailer's microscope for 7-8 weeks, it’s hard for the Plebes to realize that.
I am sure. My son’s head was still on a swivel. It was his paranoia - they were out enjoying liberty.

Brief comment from the 7/9/2023 Phone call home.

Plebe: "Getting yelled at sucks."

My initial thought response, which I checked= "Stop doing stupid."

New me response = "Hmm."
Dad was an enlisted man. I think his initial response, unchecked, might have been the same. It worked for him in my formative years. Maybe not having cell phones last century was a good thing. You did your plebe right.

Lots from NJ back when: Haddon Heights, Woodbury, Jersey City, Montclair. Other podunks that made USNA a national institution: Golden, CO; Sioux Fall, SD; Yonkers, NY; Big Sandy, TX; Winter Park, FL; Lawton, OK et al. Funny what one remembers.
