Two questions in one day, a personal record!

We would like to submit a press release to the local papers about our Basic reaching Acceptance Day. Is there someplace to find examples or official fill in the blank type press releases?

Thanks again!

Honestly; each local newspaper is unique. Also; the individual in question will determine how much space the newspaper wants to give. Most have a section where they print a picture and a 2 liner. E.g. Cadet 4th Class John Smith, graduate of North High School in Denver, graduated Air Force Academy Basic Cadet Training on August 5th, 2012. He now begins academic and military training at the Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs Colorado.

On the other hand, if you're from a small town, and your son was a well know athlete in high school; had a lot of stories about him in the past; etc..., then it's not uncommon for the newspaper to want to do a "Story" which might be a complete collumn.

Best thing to do is contact the newspaper you have in mind and see what information THEY would like you to provide.

Coast Guard had a hometown news releases system. It was used to announce appointments or graduations or just about anything else.

Does the Air Force, and Air Force Academy specifically have a similar program? I would guess it does.

In the end it is up to the media, but good luck, it's certainly doable (and often done, make sure you cut the article out and put it on the fridge!)

Thanks for the replies.

Christcorp, he wasn't an athlete, but was very involved in academics, band and academic competitions, and the area doesn't send alot of kids to the SA's (very little military locally). They did a nice article when he was nominated, but nothing since. We just wanted to send an update.

I was hoping there was something like LineInTheSand mentioned above. I thought I saw something in an old Parent Newsletter I was looking at a while back.

They do. And once your son settles in, they will have access to this info. But I suggest you take that nice article you said the paper ran on your son, and look at "Who Wrote" the article. Contact that person; thank them for the nice article; and ask them if you could provide them with updated info.
