Hi all,

I was scrolling through the Forum and saw someone say you could check what kinda of Nomination you have by looking at the Java Script.

For my Congressman's nomination it is classified as "Principal", but my Senatorial nomination is classified as "Competitive".

Can anyone explain the difference?

Thank you!

The principal nomination means that if you meet all the other criteria, you will receive an appointment.

A competitive nomination means that the SA gets to choose which nominee will receive the appointment.

Congratulations!

Yes. The principal nom means the congressman wants USNA to appoint you. If 3q - they likely will. Other SAs require them to appoint by law.

The competitive nom is the typical one. They are giving a list of names for the academy to choose the best candidate.

You are in a good place. Tend to plan b and c just in case.

Goodness, this is news! I am Medically and Physically qualified. Imo I am definitely academically qualified, but I can't say for sure what USNA thinks lol. But until I get an Appointment, I am working to keep my hopes down and sure up my alternate plans.

Good luck.

Don’t forget to add your name to the appointment list down the road.

How do you check the Java Script? Im so lost.
If you are on Crome, click Option + Command+ J at the same time and it will appear. Then just search thought he HTML for the nominations tab. It shouldn't be hard to find, but you can always Command F it. Also if not on Mac Im pretty sure Command button is the equivalent of the Control button

Ohh goodness no... I have taken Computer Science classes and I have immense respect for all of those fields. But I learned enough in my APCSP class to know that CSP and other Cyber fields aren't for me.

My passion is Political Science and International Relations!

If you are on Windows hit ctrl + shift + i and click on console and it’ll tell you what type of nom is in your USNA portal (under My Progress).

Personally, I’m wondering if this is a new thing USNA is doing (recording nom type for candidates to view…they haven’t in the past), or if this years crop of candidates figured out how to view something that’s always been there. Also discussed here

🤔🤔🤔

This year's crop of candidates figured out a loophole. Lol! I don't know who figured out to use java to view it, but it really does work. We followed the easy instructions (just a few clicks on the keyboard) and it does show the type of nomination. I'm sure if USNA reads these boards they will tie up the loop hole soon. It doesn't work with USMA or USAFA, we tried. Lol
