I was wondering if someone could explain the difference to me. My Rep's website says that Principal Nominees are guaranteed acceptance to the academy so long as they meet application requirements, while the alternates compete for "vacancies determined by the academy".

Are the alternate nominees still technically receiving a nomination, or do they only get it if the Principal Nominee doesn't take the nomination?

Thanks.

The alternates are receiving a nomination. If the principal nominee becomes inadmissible then one of the alternates can get that slot, or for "vacancies determined by the academy"... whatever that means.

Head on over to the Nominations forum and read the Stickies there.

Read everything on your SA website about noms, and the NWL.

A nom is a nom.

Principal noms, if the MOC uses that method, when combined with a fully qualified candidacy, generally means an an offer of appointment. Non-principal noms - still a nom for purposes of appointment, keeps the candidate in play for other open slots chargeable to the MOC and other appointment categories.
