Does anyone know anything about the printers that they say in the Login book that they are suppose to get with the computers? My DS said that NEX will start selling printers but don't have any now. Said that if I wanted to send him one, I could.
Should I send him one or wait? I wish someone from KP would answer this.

My DS will be purchasing his printer from the NEX. He informed me that there is a central area with a printer in his building that they all can use. Not sure how many.

So . . . they are not getting a printer with their laptops like stated in the Login book but have to purchase one instead. Bummer!

the P/Cs this year are not getting issued printers. i would recommend getting a personal one, even if there are "public" ones available. being able to control their own ability to print things, especially on short notice (last minute labs, PKT sheets, etc) independent of a broken community printer/out of paper/out of ink will be very valuable to your P/Cs very shortly.

any idea what to get? Just wondering since the USB ports were disabled. Because don't most printers now use the USB to connect to the computer? Just wondering....

the USB ports are disabled for memory use only, as of yet. my HP Photosmart C5580 printer, scanner and copier that i was issued last year still works fine. im not sure whats in the works in regard to disabling the USBs completely, but i'll keep you posted as i find out. barring all USB issues, if it's in the budget, i'd recommend a combo unit like the one i have. i use all three of these functions regularly and its an enormous asset to me. plus, the NEX stocks alot of HP ink, which makes getting refills easy. but IMHO, a printer at the very least, even a cheap model, is a must.

I just found a very reliable all in one printer (print/scan/fax) from HP online at Amazon.com for only $54.99 plus tax and it includes free shipping. I have actually purchased this exact printer, a little earlier model, for almost twice the cost two years ago. The student I bought it for is still using it and says that it has been very easy to use and does not drain ink when set on the black only, fast draft feature.

You have to put the item into the cart to see the price. I thought I would share this with everyone else!

Placed the order on Aug 3 shortly after midnight and the delivery date is Aug 9 with free shipping -- not too bad.

I guess I will need to look back and see what I paid for. I thought that a printer was supposed to be part of the package. DS has not indicated that he needs to pay additional for a printer. That would seem weird that they (USMMA) would charge you for a printer and then not issue without reason or refund or request for additional funds if original estimate was incorrect.

Look at the thread: News about Printers for an offical update.

Thanks for the printer link. Started looking last night and didn't know which one to purchase.

Just a suggestion... I'd see what inkjet cartridges the NEX has lots of in stock... and then get a printer/combo that matches THAT. They won't be able to stock everything, so I'd go with what they've got plenty of.

Ok, just got the "official" word. Refunds will be issued for printers if you paid with you fees. There is a special at the NEX for about $70 for a scanner/printer. You can call the NEX at 516-726-6177 and purchase the printer and have your student pick it up. They then need to go to DoIt Service Center and have the printer installed. :thumb:
