More information about prior enlisted applicants? Here are some topics I would like to know more about:

-Is it true that prior enlisted soldier are reserved admission spots?
- Does a reserve component contract get canceled if I get admitted to West Point?
- How does being prior enlisted effect application (USMAPS etc.)

If you have not read every page, dropdown and link on the USMA.edu site, especially in the Admissions area, I recommend it.

See this link:

I believe I have read here on SAF that there is a dedicated counselor in Admissions for enlisted applicants. I know there is one at USNA.

I am sure others from the USMA family of posters will chime in, and with luck, some prior enlisted current cadets.

My DD was prior service.

1. Yes, there are a certain number of slots for prior service. This does not guarantee you a spot, however, as you must still be qualified.
2. Your enlisted contract is put on the back burner, so to speak, if accepted to a service academy. If you drop out your prior contract becomes effective once again.
3. You do get points for being prior service.

There is a dedicated admissions counselor for prior enlisted, USMAPS and sponsored civil prep applicants. His contact information is on the admissions page of website.

Spot on. Let me know if you have additional questions. I was a prior service USMA grad.

Wait so if I enlist in the National Gurd via split ops this year and get 3Q with a nom, I will get admitted automatically? I read some online article that some prior enlisted spots go unfilled.

You would not be admitted automatically but you would pretty much automatically get a nomination and would fall under prior service for numbers. My DD has a classmate who did that.
There are no guarantees.
