During the Army game, while they are doing the "rocket", you can hear them saying "USMA" and pronouncing it with a long "U", and a long "A". Something like "You-sm-ay". Just curious has to how "USNA" is pronounced. I asked my mid, and he said he pronounces it as "THE Academy" šŸ˜‚

Cadets often refer to West Point as OOOS-MA or OOOS-MAY. Our son used to say it all the time in conversation and it always sounded odd to me, but it’s part of the vernacular I guess. He still refers to West Point that way.

Older-school USNA grads typically do not refer to USNA as ā€œAnnapolis,ā€ noting acerbically that is the city, not the school. DH is of that school of usage. I think there has been some loosening of that over the years.

West Point is actually it’s own place, separate and distinct from Highland Falls outside the gate. When local newscasters commented the A-N game was being played in Highland Falls, DH snorted and said ā€œgood luck with that.ā€

The blue PT shorts with "USNA" on them are often referred to as "OohsNahs" on The Yard, I am told.
This is true, but literally only when referring to the PT shorts.

I think most refer to "the Academy." Including the fleet, officers/enlisted alike. We all know which one.

I've heard "Canoe U" and "The Boat School" used ironically by OCS/ROTC counterparts, but never academy grads.

I often refer to USMA as the South Hudson Institute of Technology.
Army has pushed the term Army West Point as a marketing strategy in the past, I don't know if its still a thing.

I actually use "DBS" or Da Boat School (to distinguish from TBS -The Basic School, where young Marine Lieutenants learn the proper etiquette for unwrapping their crayons before eating. I've also been know to use the term IFNAG (ignorant, um, Naval Academy Grad) self deprecatingly.

I pretty much refer to it as "WOOP" or Woopville" when talking to other BoatSchoolers.
