Prop and Wings

Commissioning source makes no difference.
I beg to differ, concerning the gold prop and wings. For USAFA, commissioning source does matter unless one of the first two "conditions" apply, see this link I posted a couple of years ago. Here's a the prerequisites as stated on the bottom of second page:

"Cadets who are direct descendants of members of the Army Air Corps, Women Air Force Service Pilots (WASPs), or a parent who is a USAF Academy graduate who honorably served are authorized to wear the Gold Prop and Wings"

I believe we mean does the source matter for those who are "Army Air Corps and Women Air Force Service Pilots" For example, my great grandfather did Rotc and did his time in medical ( as my family was well known for having the only doctor in town). Not one of my 3 generations who served before me graduated from USAFA but under these rules I would still earn the gold prop and wings.

That is why I clarified "commissioning source does not matter for the first two conditions", direct descendants of AAC and WASPs.
So, yes, you would be authorized gold ones.

Commissioning source makes no difference.
For some reason, I thought I was responding to a post asking if Presidential noms for USAFA could go to sons/daughters of ROTC officers. I apologize for my conflationary moment and reply that doesn’t match the actual question being asked in context.

To be more succinct, belay my last!

@Capri120 I appreciate you bringing it to my attention. I’m outta here now!

Welcome to the forums! Interesting first post for a new member.

IMO the uniform is supposed to reflect organizational history, esprit, etc; and personal achievements, not any accidents of birth, esp considering that some might have benefited from set-asides from the competitive nomination process. And once graduated into the active force, there is no similar distinction, so it feels a little incongruous.
And in some ways, it can be an additional burden of living up to expectations, in an already competitive-enough environment. But at least it's a personal option, instead of mandatory.
