Thanks for quick advice. We will sit tight, let the process flow and be flexible. It is hard to believe his first visit home since Christmas will be Aug if his schedule holds. However we have been (and will be) able to see him for short periods of time in Feb, Mar, April, May.

DS is hoping to spend time in a sub before possibly being recruited. Does anyone know if they ever have ad hoc (weekend or intersessional) trips to Norfolk for a day cruise, or something similar?

Has your DS asked his company officer or the Submarine Company officer in his battalion about this?
 
I doubt it. But, now that he has received his cruise orders, he'll probably do so.
