Question About Nominations

So I have recently received my Congressional Nomination. When I logged onto my portal to check I realized that I received two nominations from the same person. Someone at the admissions office told me that they gave me 2 of the 10 vacancies. I'm not sure what that means for me, can someone clarify?

It is more likely that you got 2 or the 20 vacancies that your MOC had. They had 2 openings and was able to submit 2 slates.
 
@onlinejoe1998: Were you not told which academies the noms were for? You could have received two noms from the same MOC to two different academies, or you could even have received two noms to the same academy from one MOC. Our son received two noms from one source to two different academies, and four noms from another source with two of them to the same academy (and a primary nom to an academy he didn't even apply to). Call the MOC's office and ask; they will certainly give you this info.

I only applied for the nomination to West Point. I didn't apply to any of the other service academies. I will definitely contact my MOC's office.
 
Well, you only need one nom, so you're all set, but it would be nice for you to know how the two noms were given. :) Good luck to you.
 
Your MOC has two openings this year and you were nominated for each one. You will compete twice against the other individuals that were also submitted. Your MOC having two vacancies will typically increase your chances as most congressional districts will not have 20 qualified candidates in one year.
 
On the subject of nomination questions, do the MOCs know if a candidate has an LOA? My DD mentioned it in her Congressional interview, but the Senatorial one was so brief (each candidate was in and out in under 10 min) that she failed to mention it. As you can see, I am not very good at this waiting thing and with the first interview taking place back in early October, I am worried that perhaps her LOA was not known.

The MOC has the ability to find out if you have a LOA. Some look and know others do not. It is always best to assume that they do not know.

Does having 2 possibly mean you have a LOA? Or is it like USMA 1994 said where my MOA has 2 openings. This whole nomination thing is confusing.

No. You would be notified by the SA if they award you a LOA

Yes. Each MOC can have 5 students assigned to them in the entire academy. The SA manages who is assigned to each MOC. They try to have 4 students assigned to each MOC, one in each graduating class, leaving the MOC with 1 opening each year. Sometimes it dosen't work. Your MOC has 3 current students at the school. This leaves them with 2 open spots. The MOC can nominate 10 candidates for each open spot. The list of 10 nominees for each opening is their slate. Your MOC has 2 open spots, they can submit 2 slates for a total of 20 nominees. A candidate can be on one or both of these slates. In your case you are on both of your MOC slates. That's why you have 2 nominations from the same MOC.

Which portal? For your congressman or the Academy?
