Questions, Chatter, Congrats for the 2026 USAFA Appointment Thread

Sounds like you have some great stats, but stats are just a fraction of the whole picture.
Stats depends on the school you go to. My school is semi-competitive as the school isn't the best. Another local school, however, has a lot of people with 4.0 gpas, 1500+ sats, and crazy stuff since they have a much better school than mine.

Keep in mind that MOCs change frequently and because one Representative or Senator did things one way doesn’t mean that subsequent officials will do them the same. My oldest son got noms from both senators and our rep, but my youngest was told only one nom per person 6 years later.

my question was how one district over the senator had different rules about double nominations, same senator

Congressman and Senators can nominate anyone they choose. They are allowed to reach out to one another, to see who each other is giving their nominations to. They can choose to spread the wealth, and not double up on nominations, or all can choose to nominate the same individual. Some will only give an individual a nomination to one service academy, others will nominate an individual to multiple service academies. Some Congressman and Senators provide the academies with their preferred/primary nomination, but most choose to let the academies decide who is the best candidate. It is best to apply to all sources of nominations that you can, prepare for any interviews, be polite and professional, do the best you can and hope for the best. The waiting is the hardest part.

I know that part he already has an offer of appointment. What I was curious is that he was told he would not be considered for senatorial nomination bc he already got a congressman's nomination and they did not want to double nominate students, one district over we know someone who got a congressman's nomination and one from the same senator who said he did not want to double nominate students...I thought it was weird....not sure it's good weird or bad weird.

It can depend on whether the Rep and senators are members of the same party, whether the applicant lets the senators know they have already received a nomination, and also whether the candidate fills a demographic the senators are seeking to push. Don’t try to make sense of it.

he said the congressman notified the senator my kid already had a nomination so he would not nominating bc of it

I was looking at the 2022/23 calendar and noticed that for parents weekend it states, “
PARENTS’ WEEKEND 2 BEGINS LMD
NO CLASSES”.
Thanksgiving break states LMD as well.

Does anyone know what LMD means ?

Just curious... you mentioned your son "already has an offer of appointment." However, you're asking about multiple nominations. Why would it matter if he has MULTIPLE MOC nominations if he already has an "offer of appointment?"

I was wondering why one senator in a dostrict said no multiple and in a district over the senator is ok w giving multiple meaning congressman and senator nominations. Just that. Nothing else Not to multiples academies but to a single student getting nom from congressman and senator.

In some places if u get one u dont get re other. But our senator didn't seem consistent w the rule just on district over. Same senator.

BC it actually is NOT a rule. They can do it however they want. Even if they say one thing, maybe they identify a student that they deem exceptional, for example, and double nom. Or, maybe they DONT have enough they deem qualified enough, and NEED to double nom. Or? Maybe a student has applied 3 times and they feel they show tenacity and delve out double noms. Or?? Maybe they have two spots ope this year, and decide to double nom. Who knows. They really can do whatever they want.

Agree and that is why i just curious. As consistent and my after taco bell buffet

I would think at least w in weeks and areas they would be consistent

It is what it is

My apologies for wondering

Asking the question multiple times won’t change the answer. @justdoit19 is absolutely correct. They can do whatever they want, for good reason, bad reason, or no reason. I gave you a couple potential reasons in response to the same question you posted previously, which I have quoted above. Don’t spend time worrying about it or trying to make sense of it, because you will never get a satisfactory answer.

Go to the nominations forum, and you can read for days and days about all of it.

Have you read the PINNED info at the top of that forum? Tons of info.

The takeaway, is that the MOC’s can run their program however they want. Aside from a few parameters set by the SA’s, it is their process to do with as they please.

There's been some confusion in the past about the Appt Type column of the "the list". Many consider a "direct" appointment to be one straight from high school. However, from what I've gathered USAFA admissions considers a "direct" appointment to mean someone who is appointed "directly" to the Academy (vs appointed to the USAFA Prep or Falcon Foundation).

Would anyone object to changing Appt Type to something like Appt'd From?

Possible options might be something like "High School", "College", "AF Prep", "<civilian prep> (Falcon Foundation)", "<civilian prep> (Free Agent)", "LEAD - Active Duty", "LEAD - Guard", etc.

There is no rhyme or reason behind the nom and/or appointment process, you have a better chance of successfully spitting an atom in your backyard with a fork & knife or proving there are really aliens at Area 51 than figuring out this mysterious, convoluted and exciting process. I for one will not, since I have no desire to wind up in a straitjacket, we all have to take it for what it is.

Is the application portal down? I keep getting Error 404 when logging in. Refreshed, nothing.
