Questions, Chatter, Congrats for the 2026 USAFA Appointment Thread

Hi, I have a dumb question, what is "Self-Prep"? I thought it was AF Prep but then today I saw "Self-Prep" and AF-Prep" as options for the list.
 
Self-prep means they paid for a private prep school all by themselves. AF prep means that they went to USAFA prep school. Falcon scholar means that they were given a scholarship to attend a private prep school. When you see "NWP" somewhere, it means they went to North West Prep.

Self-prep (based on what I know) are those who are flat-out rejected from USAFA but go on and attend prep schools (the same ones that Falcon Scholars/Foundation students go to) for one year in hopes of getting an appointment the following year. Since they aren't sponsored by USAFA, there is no guarantee that they will get in the following year, unlike Foundation/Falcon Scholars

Maybe it's just me, but I'm betting more come out this evening or next week, seeing how there is no new appointments in the last month from Cali, Utah, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, montanna, Wyoming, Colorado and whatever other states.

I think I messed up my reporting on the list then. I meant for it to say AF Prep, not Self-Prep.
 
Gotta be honest. I was feeling positive until today when I see so many appointments come through and the portal is still showing nothing. It appears a huge batch went out today, based on the appointments listed just in the last 10 hours. I can feel the positivity leaking out of my body 😩. Darn it !

My DS is on the same boat!! Plenty of time to be appointed still, don’t sweaty yet
 
Thought I would share here, as an email has unexpectedly answered by previous question. Candidates who accept their appointment will receive an email containing the following:

"Congratulations on your acceptance of an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy. You have made a wise decision and a bright future awaits.

Please monitor your portal for additional information and requirements that you will need to complete to in-process to the Academy in June. We expect to have the “Appointee Kit” up and running on or about the 15th of April. Please complete the requirements and meet the deadlines that will be specified in your Appointee Kit.

Again, congratulations! We are excited to have you as a member of the Class of 2026."

Same boat. Thanks to @dav1y we atleast know the time-line for late appointments. Roughly.

Trying to look ahead (read extremely-anxious-in-CA-because-the-portal-hasn't-updated-as-of-now!), how do we learn about the private prep school options other than NWP? Is there such a thing as a USAFA-approved list of these prep schools we can check into?
 
Has anyone heard anything from Enlisted/Lead applicants? Haven’t seen anything in the appointment thread and have only seen one post about a rejection
