Questions, Chatter, Congrats for the 2026 USAFA Appointment Thread

False alarm....:( It was to asked if he had committed to any academy yet ( he had an early offer from USNA ) and if he would like to have dinner with the congressman and other appointees before they depart. 2 appointees I think already for Air Force from our area...... one with a family-military connection so maybe USAFA did not use congressional nomination....the other we don't know....... he will just have to keep checking the portal. But I guess the first early rounds portals were updated before their office could call candidates....now they are letting the congressman know first....so we wait.
Congratulations on the USNA offer (a bird in the hand😊). And best wishes for the USAFA offer to come soon.

Fingers crossed for your son!
Thank you. We are hoping USAFA used a presidential nomination with one and the other I think is an Air Force Prep candidate. We know they are both well deserving of their appointments but we are hoping to get one here too.
DS is honored by the USNA offer and he did love their Academy etc

If an applicant received a DQ, would they receive a rejection notice if the Academy chooses to not request a waiver? If a waiver process is initiated - any idea on timeline?

I got DQ'd in early April last year and received a rejection when a large batch of them went out around April 18th. It's my understanding that if USAFA doesn't request a waiver it means you aren't deemed competitive and will eventually get a rejection. I believe the timeline for a waiver depends on the condition, how many documents were needed, if they need more information, etc.

Will there be another big wave? Or is at the trickling point now? DD is still waiting.
Looking at the graphic for 2025, it looks like there were small bumps weekly until a big dump mid-March. Since we are behind, I assume because of new software, the academy probably had a larger first bump mid-March with a couple of smaller bumps to come weekly over the next several weeks. My DS was Med DQ until his waiver came through the second week of March so he is probably just getting looked at now or over the next week or two.

Congrats to all appointees from this wave… it seems DS missed this train…. Waiting on next train station stop :)

Ps: they should have a trade academy day lol for those who got 2nd pick and want to switch w others candidates to whom ur second pick is their first lol like a NFL trade haha.

Isn't that similar to what Hal Moore did, in like 1940 something, to go to USMA?

What do you all think separates the first wave appointees that we saw on Sunday and the appointments that are too come in later waves?

Was everyone that was appointed on Sunday most qualified for appointment?
Did geography play a role on where appointments went out too?
Do they release appointments based on when peoples application was due?
Are the later appointments filling slots that were rejected from other applicants?
Are applications that come out later issued to those who the admissions team was on the fence about?
Completely random?

So many different factors. Just some examples of the questions I have been asking myself as I wonder why so many applicants heard yesterday and why some have not heard yet.

I am in the same boat in terms of intrigue. I guess I have really been humbled haha.

My application was submitted on Nov. 23 and the due date was the 30th. I'm in a small county in North Carolina and the nomination was put in two days before the due date. I have relatively good extracurriculars, community service, and school ranking however my ACT scores are somewhat lacking as they are barely within the "considered" range. I finished my DoDMERB in like February but was DQ'd because my braces were planned to come out in Mid-June even though I will be getting them off in 7 weeks. A waiver hasn't been started for me yet so you could say I'm a little disappointed and nervous. Honestly, though, I'm happy that senior year is coming to a good end.

Very proud of my friends and other members that have been accepted. Congratulations! You deserve it!
