Questions, Chatter, Congrats for the 2026 USAFA Appointment Thread

Don't count on it. Two years ago, a note was actually put up on the portal that everyone would hear by 4/21-- Well, we all waited for 4/21-- That morning, many waiting did get TWEs... Except, not everyone did. My DS had no change to his portal-- late that night his portal changed to Appointee. Then there were more appointments added to the list well into May--- The bulk of appointments have been made, yes-- but more appointments are likely coming.
So you are saying that we should hope for no appointment being made at 4/21 :)

My DS received his waiver like this today. He’s actually now down to the required weight after losing weight since football season ended. We are keeping our fingers crossed for this to mean good things as well.

I just wish I could read the tea leaves better. I’m guessing this could mean absolutely nothing as well as what we all want it to mean. Anyone with insight on seeing these pop up later in the appointment cycle like we seem to be?
My father works with USAFA in selecting foreign appointees in the Philippines where we are stationed and he has some sort of insight. He received an email today from someone he knows directly in admissions that "Zach may want to check his admissions portal on Monday" and left it at that. Although ambiguous, my thinking is that they wouldn't be bothering with waivers for people who are going to be rejected within the next 4 days.

;) Perhaps-- All of those who got no update on that stated day got good news-- either an appointment, or a falcon scholarship, or something...In fact, I was pretty sure my DS was "Mr Irrelevant", or the actual last person picked. Turns out, no

My son received his appointment 2 weeks after being granted a waiver. I’m guessing yours will come sooner than that. Good luck!

Thank you! I hope that is what this means. Like everyone here he would be thrilled for a nod to the Prep School or USAFA straight way. Its just hard because you don't know and feel like your emotions are being played with a little when you see something like that come through at this point. Wishing everyone the best as we walk through the wait.

Yes but those correlations are the exception under very specific circumstat

If the first choice from a slate declines, and if they were the only one from that slate offered an appointment, than the next qualified candidate from that slate is offered an appointment. So some declines do open up spots.
Actually, if a person declines from a particular state/region, it opens to anyone nationally. At least, this is how it worked a couple of years ago when my husband was an ALO.

I can't speak to a few years ago, but as long as there are another qualified candidate from that slate, it has to go to them. If there are no qualified candidates, than I suppose it could be opened up nationally.

I can attest to this for last year's cycle at least. My Congressman had two openings, so he had two Principal nominations. I was the top ranked candidate behind those two. One of them declined their appointment, and no one else got picked from his slate. He had two openings again this year. It worked out for me this time, but it definitely seems as though declines are available to anyone nationally.

How does everyone find out who else is on an MOC's slate. I have no idea who else received nominations in my DS's district.

It does not go to another qualified candidate. The MOC can have a principal candidate and they need to give him/her an appointment, by law. But there is only one principal candidate. The SA's can then pick from wherever list they want. If the MOC sends a list with a pricipal and then ranks the other 9 candidates, they can pick the second, third or fourth if they want them. But it is not mandatory for the SA's to keep chosing from that slate. I learned all this in this forum hehe

Chart updated through today, 14 April.

Some good advice from @raimius on another thread:
So, let's look at some history and set realistic expectations. First the history: people have received appointments up to a few days prior to I-day. So, all hope is not lost. "So, you're saying there's a chance!" Second, let's set realistic expectations. Most appointments have been/are being sent (April is the big month, historically, iirc). If you haven't heard anything by the next couple weeks, your odds of getting an appointment are low. Don't abandon all hope, but start seriously deciding on which back-up plan to select.

I second this. Just realized that VA D11 has third appointee (at least) here with Rep nom only.
Don’t lose your hope!

**** just joined after lurking for few months and thank you for all amazing candidates and parents who’s been sharing thoughts and encouragement.
