Questions, Chatter, Congrats for the 2026 USAFA Appointment Thread

I guess plan b it is then :(
Probably a rejection for me on the 21st
Same. We can read all the tea leaves and if you’re still waiting to hear it is highly likely that it’s a TWE at this point. While there is still a minuscule sliver of hope, it’s not enough to hang your hat on. So plan B it is - the academy just doesn’t have enough spots for everyone who applied - onward and upward to a new path, a new beginning and a fond farewell to the USAFA journey that started a few years ago. Best to all, those fortunate enough to get an appointment, and to those who are heading down a different yet equally excellent path elsewhere.

We had hoped the influence of the Space Force grabbing a few AFA Graduates the past few years would have meant a few more spots this year, but the odds are getting slimmer by the day. At least those who didn't get in at this point can say they didn't get flat out rejected can still see that as an accomplishment.

Plan B for my son panned out with paying for everything with the exception of his books and fees and it is where he would have wanted to go to Grad school anyways, so it will work out in the end. Hope everyone who doesn't get in finds their silver lining, but we will keep checking just in case!

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe unfortunately that the Academy still has the same number of slots by law regardless of the fact that Space Force takes some graduates

The USSF is incredibly tiny and despite some overhead created involving running a separate service (limited by being under the DAF still) the number of officers required at this stage in its infancy is small. USSF will, for the foreseeable future, be previous AFSPC AFSCs and some others like 62XX. I doubt it will lead to increased USAFA class sizes for a long time. What will affect USAFA class sizes are how many slots Congress is willing to allocate and how many officers HQ USAF wants as outlined in the PGL-- which is most impacted by national security concerns and the DoD budget, not the existence of the Space Force.

My DS is still waiting. He has a USMA appointment and I am thinking of talking to him about accepting USMA (he plans to if USAFA does not come through), and then if USAFA comes through to call and decline his USMA. I have asked the question before and it seemed like that is not frowned on. I would hate for someone to lose a spot at USMA if he accepts and then declines because USAFA offered an appointment. So many thoughts. Lots of pins and needles on all fronts. Not sure of the advantage of this route other than getting started on the pre-report requirements (which I am sure there are several common elements, e.g. shots, security clearance paperwork, etc.).

Question for all the latest appointee’s, how much time to accept or decline?

QUESTION for all. We have yet to hear anything. So we of course are moving forward with our other Plan A, but I just have a question. Have other people already received TWE's or rejections? Are the rejections rolling like some of the appointments, or do these all come out at the same time? Is it silly to think that since we haven't heard a thing, that maybe he is on a short list of people who are close, and may make it if others decide to do something different? Or is it all speculation until you hear something?
Thank you in advance, and I want to say how proud I am of ALL OF YOU who had the tenacity to apply to USAFA and who deeply desire to serve this country.

Same boat as y'all! Others have been receiving TWEs over the past several weeks. Supposedly April 21st is the day when all initial offers should be out.
If you haven't received a TWE yet, there's still a chance! Good luck :)
