Questions Thread

The R-Day packing list that I've received includes "Small desk fan, no bigger than 6” diameter" under the Recommended section. Is anyone going to bring one? I'm tempted, but if it's going to put a "target" on me I'll skip it.

If it says you can, do it. It gets extremely hot here and New Cadets must be in full uniform at all times and they can get pretty hot. You won't get any special attention for bringing something you were told to bring, just make sure it meets the regulation and isn't too flashy (no neon lit up fans ).

I've heard the term "DS" alot on these forums.... Just curious what is stands for

How long does it take for your portal normally to update your scores when you send the score reports?

It generally takes a few weeks up to a month for most schools

I have a question regarding the minority outreach and how that works with obtaining an LOA. I was contacted by the admissions officer about my likelihood of obtaining an LOA, and I have been in contact with the minority outreach officer about a trip to visit WP. I am hoping I get an LOA, but I haven't had an interview. I am wondering if the process of obtaing an LOA for minorities is different than for everyone else?

Also, were the minority LOAs sent on Sep 1st as well?

Is an LOA the same thing as fast track? In the beginning of August, my field force rep called and said that I am on a list for a early decision. I haven't heard anything since then in regards to early acceptance.

Fast Track is not admissions term. You may have been considered for an LOA. You may or may not receive one.

My field force representative said that my interview should take anywhere from 2-3 hours. I'm just wondering how specific the questions will get from anyone who has had the interview.

I have a question--when does West Point start sending out acceptance letters? I heard it was on rolling admissions but I don't know the entire case with it.

The admissions page says the first offers are sent out as early as November with most of the offers send in mid-April.

As for my question, this is concerning West Point's boxing program. I am interested in learning / trying out for the team, and in order to prep for it I want to know whether or not the coach uses free weights or not. I read a book by Joe Frazier (former world heavyweight champ) that the greatest of pros never needed nor used weights, which I agree with.

But hey, WP's boxing program is successful and whatever will help me win is whatever I'll do :D

What's the difference between competitive and admissible standardized test scores. Is it just that your scores are called admissible if you get an appointment?

Admissable are the absolute lowest scores that they are able to admit someone with. With that being said, if your scores are at the admissable level, they are not going to be competitive. For SAT scores, competitive is usually around 50ish points higher in each category if I am remembering correctly. It may be higher or lower, but competitive are higher than the admissable scores.

I believe "admissable" is more like "more competitive" and above "competitive." I am pretty sure I read that somewhere on here.

I think your right because my field force representative told me my scores were competitive, but she wanted to get them to admissible.

I am taking my CFA this weekend and I have already received an LOA, so all I need to do is pass. I am anticipating that I max the mile and pushups, score average/slightly above on the sprint, crunches, and maybe the throw. If I score above average on the flex hang (not the pullup) will that be a pass? I hate that I'm not able to do a pullup, bit I'm hoping everything else will make up for it.
