R-Day Announcement ‘24 Pending

I had no idea this would cause so much controversy, I apologize. I just know how much speculation has gone into what's going on, and figured 2024 CCs and parents would like to have actual information on the matter. I would remove the post, but I don't see any option to delete comments. If an admin decides to remove it, then that's fine with me.

There's no need to apologize - you were coming from a good place with honorable intent, which is admirable. It was clear you just wanted to help others and provide more information. It's just sometimes there's a bigger picture to look at. My initial response to your post was a question for a reason, I was not sure if it was something the moderators would allow. My opinion of whether or not it should stay on the forum is only an opinion.

@USMA2025Cadet I wouldn't sweat it. You did nothing wrong. You found something which was to the best of your knowledge releasable. You are not bound by any non-disclosure agreements and there are no caveats or markings indicating that it isn't releasable. Working in environments where users are routinely working at a variety of classification I think there is a bit of an overreaction to what was posted here. I don't expect incoming freshmen/plebes to go through classification review on an administrative schedule for summer orientation. I am a firm believer in OPSEC but after working for several years in environments I find there is also caution to be considered in overclassifying data or information.

With this leak being more than likely true of a JUL 13th R-Day, how would this affect the USMAPS incoming class as well? Would they be pushed back two weeks like the incoming plebe class or would they conglomerate them with the class of 2024?
That’s a good question. Rumor has it USMAPS will push to the 20th but nothing official yet. Hopefully an upcoming official announcement will be soon.

Hello everyone!

A lot of questions have been asked about the OP's original posting of the screenshot. Some have said it needed to be taken down, there was a concern about OPSEC, SA Forums rules, etc. All of you have seen them so I needn't list them.

Short answer: this posting doesn't violate the SA Forums rules. Okay...is it information that the USMA wants to be released to the general public or their incoming class? Probably not. However, and I'm going on my many years of AF service, from what I can discern, it is simply a screenshot of a training plan. It's not classified in any of the ways that would call for immediate action; it doesn't say "FOUO, Confidential, Restricted," or any of a myriad of other "restricted use terms" that could be placed upon it. If it's not marked in such a way, then one could deduce that it's okay to "share."

Then the sharing becomes a judgment thing. Were I still on EAD and a part of the WP staff, I'd have the cadet who sent it out, to borrow a navy term, "keelhauled." But...I'm not.

So...bear no ill-will to the OP. Nobody said it couldn't be shared and for all we know, it may not be restricted information. Sharing was done with good intentions.

And besides...as a great military leader once said: "NO battle plan ever survives first contact..." so this "plan" is just that...a plan today. Who knows what it'll be tomorrow, or next week, or next month.

Have a great week!!

Expect to hear something very soon.

The website no longer states that R-Day is still scheduled for June 29. It has been taken down with nothing to replace it. This usually means they are getting ready to upload new information.

I received an email that confirms what is stated above about 3 separate R-days in July.

The theme of the letter is to "continue to remain flexible". 12-14 July will be (as stated above) three different R-days. However:

"Expect your R-Day to look very different from the traditional R-Day agenda. You should not plan for family and friends to be invited onto the grounds for ceremonies and receptions. The involvement of families on your R-day will likely be limited to a New Cadet drop off."

According to the website, the portal will be updated with individual reporting instructions (including date and time) NLT 12 June. More useful information is on the westpoint.edu COVID-19 page, including guidance about a variety of "what ifs".

All in all, some welcome clarity for our planning.

I believe that was Jack Reacher quoting Helmuth von Moltke the Elder
