The petty grudge thread is ticking right along, may reach epic Bacon thread proportions at this rate. Thought I would start a counter thread, to keep our SAF Yin and Yang in balance.

I'll go first.

I love the smell of rain on freshly tilled topsoil. Reminds me of my childhood.
The smell of fresh bread right out of the oven.
My children's laughter (all grown-up now, still love it)
The frost on a perfectly chilled beer mug.
The glisten of local honey on a warm biscuit or slice of cornbread.

Hearing the kids' or even DW laughing for sure is likely tops. Especially when it is sincere and uncontrolled. As is the dog's unwavering tail wag, even if I have to bribe her with treats.

A good large cup of regular* coffee while sitting on a mountain porch first thing in the morning.
A good book, especially one that made me think.

* as in regular coffee in a cup without crap to flavor or change its color

The sounds of
- batting practice before an afternoon game
- breakfast rush at a small diner
- rain at the lake

The smell of
- fresh-mown grass (clichés rock - don't fight me on this)
- my baseball (now softball) glove in the spring
- musty, dusty used bookstores

So many favorite things.
But the one I think about to create inner calm is lying on the deck of our sailboat on a perfect day in San Diego, not too hot, not too cold, feeling the warmth of the sun, smelling the salt on the breeze, hearing the slap of the rigging and the susurration of the water as we cut through the swells, nothing on my mind, no aches or pains, feeling all was right and as it should be.

And boxer puppy breath.

Dog walks. We don’t have a fence and Buster is so goofy he would run off into the forest and not find his way back if we let him out to urinate. So he gets a few walks a day, every day, which is big reason he’ll turn 14 in August.

Listening to my student presentations at the end of the semester and seeing the improvement from the just a few months before.

Making a positive contribution to the community where I live and to the local, state and national veterans community.

Being retired. . . (OK semi-retired)

Streaming music on Spotify on a long road trip. A clean rest stop on a long road trip.
Italian gelati.
Midshipmen on liberty in whites.
Pearly Shells played on an ukulele.
Family pictures in an actual photo album.
DW's cooking.
Being neither hindered nor compelled.
