Hi everyone, I am a re-applicant for the class of 2028, and was denied for class of 2027 because of lack of STEM based classes. I am having a lot of stress about what classes I should take in the spring semester. I am trying to mirror the plebe course requirements so I have a general idea of the courses I would need to take if I got in. I just got finished taking Calculus 1, US History, Chemistry 1, and Chemistry with lab 1. In the spring I am considering taking a language class (likely german), Calculus 2, Intro to Literature, and another History class, and possibly a world politics class. Is this strong enough for my application? I wanted to take intro to physics, but was told that that specific class is reserved for early college students. I would be thankful for anyone to give their feedback on this, thank you! (Edit, I forgot to mention that my fall semester classes were 13 credits, and for spring it is looking like 15 credits. These are college classes as well.)

I am currently at a military prep school as a Sponsored Navy Scholar. It would be in your best interest to take Chem 2 and at least a calculus-based Physics class. My school works on a quarter system so I took Chem 1 and 2 already and I will take Physics 1 and 2 after winter break. Try to mimic around 17-18 credits and focus on taking more STEM classes.

Why are you not planning on taking Chemistry 2?
I did fine in chemistry, but I really struggled on the last few bits. I also needed to cover calculus 2 and some other English/physics classes.

I’m taking an Intro to physics class w a lab, but I’ll be gaining 19 credits this semester.

Maybe consider the Chemistry over the English if you are lite on STEM?

If you are trying to prepare yourself for USNA, I strong suggest Chemistry II or Physics. Chem is the "plebe killer" and the more background you have in it, the easier it will be. If Chem is a struggle now, even more reason to take more of it before USNA.

If Chem and physics aren't options, look for another "true" STEM class, such as intro to engineering. Another option is statistics. The humanities courses you're taking are fine, but won't be a huge help for a reapplicant.

As an aside, as a plebe, you'll take 16/17 credits per semester PLUS all of the plebe stuff you have to do. After that, the normal course load is 18-20 hours per semester, depending on how much you validate and your major. At USNA (unless something has changed) you can't take fewer than 15 credits per semester, so keep that in mind.

I got my final schedule back, and it includes intro to physics and physics lab 1 with calculus 2 and an intro to lit class w a language class.
