Hello, I was just wondering if I could get anyone’s opinion on using the same essays this year when I reapply as I did last year. In my opinion, other than some slightly less mature writing that I have corrected, my essays last year were pretty good. Would the academy ding me points for using the same essays even if they were still of good quality? Thanks for the advice!

Your essays may have been good, but you didn’t receive offer of appointment. So you ought to be seeking every opportunity to improve every aspect of your package. Use the essay to show how you’ve grown over the past year, have learned new things, have strengthened your conviction that SA/active duty is truly your calling. If your story is essentially the same as last year, you’re not giving admissions much reason to think of you differently — and to make a different decision.

I would assume they pull out last cycle’s package to assess improvements. If the reviewing officer notes your essays are essentially the same, what assumptions might pop into his or her mind?

JMPO, but submitting the same essays would be saying that you've had no significant setbacks, ethical dilemmas, or life experiences over the past year that would serve to make you a stronger candidate, cadet, and (eventually) officer in the Air Force. I hope that this is not the case, but successful reapplicants are those who work to improve each aspect of their "package" in order to secure an offer of appointment the second (or third) time around.

Do you just want to appear as having no change or development.. if so take your chances and submit the same at your risk!
