Hi, I've read the sticky for reapplying and I've read a bunch of posts on this, but I see conflicting info... I'm reapplying and I'm not sure whether to use my college instructor(entering as a freshman this fall) or my high school instructors from senior year. I don't want to ask a college professor that barely knows me(rather large lecture hall classes), but my senior year teachers were the same as my junior year, so I'd be using the sam evaluator... any advice?

Having a letter of recommendation from a college professor can really help your application packet as a reapplicant. Think about it this way, you will be competing against a lot of high school students who will be using junior or senior year teachers for their recommendations. Why go back to your high school teachers when you have a chance to use college professors? In all honesty it is not hard to build a connection with a professor. Attend their office hours, sit in the front of the lecture, and volunteer to answer a question even if you might be wrong. I would definitely ask a college professor for a letter of recommendation because it definitely carries a little more weight in your application. Not saying that high school letters of recommendation are bad, but having someone with a masters or doctorate who works at a university write a letter on your behalf will look good when you apply again.

And professors are people, too! Have that conversation with them after you have been in their class for a bit. Give them a heads up what your goals are, and let them know at some point, they will be requested to fill out an evaluation of your class performance. That gives them a heads up to keep an eye on what they need to.

I would bet money (if I was a betting person...) that they will be happy to assist. Unless they are a jerk 😂. But I find most people to NOT be jerks, in general.

Be careful with professors...

HAHA. I should be safe, I think my university has a good relationship with the Navy, but I’ll be careful!

Excellent advice. Thanks

Keep in mind that USNA does not review applications of college students (reapplicants or first-timers) until first semester grades are in, which means mid-to-late January. Thus, there is no benefit from an admissions standpoint in having recommendations sent in before the end of the calendar year. The benefit for you is that the prof has a full semester to get to know you and thus, hopefully, write something meaningful.

Of course, the MOC deadlines and requirements are different. If you have an MOC with a very early submission deadline, you may be better off with a senior h.s. teacher because your college profs won't have known you for more than a month or two.

if i recall, my DS used his college professors but they didnt really have to write a ""XYZ is amazing " letter. it was more like a questionnaire that they filled out. DS didnt have a close relationship with the math professor as it was the TA he interacted with. Professor completed the Questionnaire at the last minute and DS received an appointment. it ok if you dont know them personally like you might have in HS.
