Received email declined appointment?

I’ve enjoyed the unraveling into maritime pro talk. In my tours with MSC, I enjoyed visiting/riding not only the USNS CIVMAR-manned oilers, refrigerated stores, dry cargo, ordnance, ocean-going tugs, T-AGOS “interesting mission ships,” missile range ships, but also the many contract-operated USNS ROROs, the contract prepo ships, the spot charters, and particular favorites the hospital ships MERCY and COMFORT, both converted from San Clemente class tankers. I got my first introduction to the endless inside jokes about ship’s officers from KP, SUNY Maritime, Mass, Maine, etc.

I think I may have to reactivate my Propeller Club membership!

yeah, from an email on declined appointment to discussing manning levels and automation on SL-7 containerships.. talk about drifting off course.. yikes!
What this forum needs is one of those 'ask me anything' threads about life post graduation or as a cadet in the 'real' merchant marine. Maybe that would help keep these wild tangents from happening.. Oh, and for those that may have been wondering what an SL-7 looks like; here's the SEA-LAND GALLOWAY during her commercial service life..

And to think that the modern containership now has a capacity of 100 times over this. . . but I digress. . oh, and since I have already trashed this thread, I will add one last. A fellow alumni who is a naval architect has a side line of making frameable line drawings of vessels. I recently purchased and framed this one for the house.48934812721_28af711e07_b.jpg
