Hello, I obtained an LOA in September and picked up the nomination in late December. I understand that USNA is on leave, but do I just wait? I was also wondering if I need to apply RD to any schools, in the event I get an injury and am not able to attend. Thank you for your helpful responses in the previous threads I have made!

Short answer, yes. You wait. And you pursue all plans B-Z.

Congratulations on the LOA and nomination.

Yes, you wait. It will eventually turn into an appointment.

There are many threads about Plan B schools. Many different thoughts on them. Recommend you use the search feature and explore Plan B or Back up plans as this comes up each year.

Yes, an appointment offer could come any time between now and April. The board meets once a week and offers trickle out in no particular order. Have your alternate plans squared away and ready to go. My son is one of those who received his “plan A” USNA appt. A last minute orthopedic injury meant losing plan A, B, and C. He ended up having to secure plan D for a year to then pursue plan A again, where he is now.

With an LOA, you’ve already been deemed admissible once you’ve met conditions, so the board meeting weekly likely has little to do with your inbound appointment. No one jumps out of their seat after a board review for admissibility and immediately runs to a keyboard to launch an appointment into a candidate portal.

There are many parallel and intersecting processes and actions and QA reviews in Admissions, with the Noms & Appointments team finalizing lists, slates, etc., and getting final approval. Your appointment is somewhere in the queue.

You should have a school lined up in case of injury or illness that prevents you reporting in on I-Day. How late you hang onto that option depends on your own risk management profile. Admissions will typically work with these appointees on a readmission plan.

Oh - and answer strange phone calls and have a professional voice mail prompt set up, in case of phone notification.

Imagine you order something online. You get confirmation that payment has been received and the package is on its way. If it’s not at your doorstep later that day do you assume something is wrong? No, things just take time. So relax, refresh your email every day, and be patient.

Also, as a general rule of thumb, the military is behind the times usually when it comes to instant results. There is a chain things flow to and the budget to continuously overhaul and improve a system is not always there. If the system is reasonable and accomplishes the mission, it is hard to find a leg to stand on to argue for an improvement.

What is the status of your dodmerbs? For multiple reasons, apply to your plan B+ schools.

The LOA will often have stipulations such as a Nom and passing the medical. If all those are done, wait, be patient.

Just to update this thread, I have yet to receive anything... is it worth reaching out to my BGO?
Can’t say. I doubt your BGO has any direct pull with admissions. That is not our roll.

Also keep in mind many staff members may have rolling vacation days over the holidays.

You have what you need. Hang in there and exercise patience.

I reviewed all the previous advice on the question you posed in your first post, and it all still stands. You wait. It could still be mid-April. I suspect it will be sooner, but rest assured you haven’t been forgotten or your application somehow deleted. You are likely not top priority right now.

You had at least one BGO respond to you above, and they did not advise you to contact your BGO. Your BGO, even if they know anything, are not supposed to tell you. That is the Admissions team’s prerogative; they also inform your MOC when they are ready to release your appointment.

You cannot control this, and you can’t make it happen faster. You are in a GREAT situation. Smile quietly about that as you finish this year strong, enjoy family and friends, work on your PT and fitness, tend your alternate plan, go pore through the Plebe Summer Home section on USNA.edu. That still reflects Class of 2028 info but usually doesn’t change much. Dive into the Permit to Report and other To Do items to get a feel for actions that will be pending.

Reflect ma 2027 info, not 2028.

One of those dreams where you are running in slow motion and keep trying to push faster, and getting nowhere. ;)

Don't worry, you have done everything asked of you. Patience is a very difficult thing.

Thanks for the advice, I can wait. But it just feels like I am at a finish line that I cannot cross.
This time next year, if it all works out, you will be entering the Dark Ages, the gloomy, raw cold, wet, thrillingly fun time of the year in the Yard where you go to class in the dark and get back in the dark, between winter break and spring break. You will be at least 300% busier than you ever thought you could be, as you enter semester 2 of 8 of a 4-year grind.

Take each day of relative freedom and savor it. Your own comfy bed, home cooking, your favorite jeans, being at the top of the heap. Be in the moment with friends and family.

And, answer calls on your phone and have a professional voice mail prompt set up.

Yeah, I'm just a little impatient because I've finally settled on USNA compared to the other top schools + ROTC scholarship.

Cultural assignment to leaven the wait: go to Rylan Tuohy’s YouTube channel and watch all of his spirit videos. Report back on your favorite, if desired
