Hello All- I'm applying for admission for the class of 2021. Recently, my status was updated to Candidate. However, it was to my knowledge and is on the admissions website that one had to receive his or her nomination before being promoted to candidate status. Short of my SAT Scores, Class Rank, and GPA I haven't really submitted much else. The letter USAFA sent me said they deemed me competitive enough for appointment, but I was wondering if anyone else was in the same situation? And if so, did they contact their congressman/senate and update him or her on their new status? Thanks!

Being updated from Applicant status to Candidate status does not require a nomination. The admissions most likely found your preliminary application (which includes SAT Scores, Class Rank, and GPA) competitive enough for the class of 2021 cycle. Now, you can officially be appointed if you receive a nomination and are 3Q'd. Congratulations on officially beginning the process and best of luck with nominations/the rest of the application!

It just means there was nothing in your preliminary package to exclude you from the pipeline.
