These are the remaining boards.
Can anybody chime in as to if any of the below boards may be screening and selecting Nurse Option Scholarships.
If the application period closed Jan 31 I’m hoping for at least 1 Nursing Board left.

I normally post in the 1st Board results, but since we essentially have 4 boards left, I figured I would post here. And I felt Jimdlt19 was getting lonely with no one replying to his post ;)

First off, I am not here to post any results. If you anxiously clicked here for that purpose, I apologize. Go back to your Sunday morning coffee, or your Super Bowl pre game cooking, or whatever you were doing prior to reading this.

But, if you are bored like me (grading college papers and need a break), I wanted to share some general stats that were discussed at a recent PNS meeting.

We did in fact get the most recent board results from JANUARY (not the Feb 7-11 board) in front of our Boss, and I believe those have been approved. No one worked the weekend, so likely tomorrow and Tuesday people will be punching the data into the databased, and at some point, emails will go out. If I pick a day, someone will make a liar out of me and delay it, so I can't predict if that will be tomorrow, or Tuesday, or the next day.

For Jimdlt19, I hear there are some Nurse Options on the last board, and there were some more on the Feb board, and I will have more on that later.

Up to this point, there have been 459 NROTC Scholarships awarded (this is only Navy -- the Marines have managed to keep their numbers shrouded in secrecy. Any of you who have insight into the MCRC process, chime in.) Overall this year, we will likely offer in the neighborhood of 1000. This means with half the boards done, half the scholarships are still out there.

For MSISR (read this is those applying for either HBC or HHE colleges), there are 40 scholarships awarded. The total number to be awarded is a moving target, but for rough planning, it should be in the neighborhood of 200 selectees. What this means is there are a LOT left to give......so if you have an MSISR application pending, to read the tea leaves, you are in decent shape because we have lower application rates in this area this year.

For Nurse Options......and I can see through my computer that Jimdlt19 just moved to the edge of his seat.......there have only been 9 selected thusfar. The projections for this year suggest there may be as many as 50 given total. So again, odds are good, but there are several hundred applications. So keep your options open for Nurse Candidate Program.

Here is one major difference from where things were last year. We would normally be sending out rejection notices by the February boards. That's because we have been further along in the selection process and we could tell who the lower ranking candidates were, and that they would not be competitive moving forward. We can't predict that just yet, so there have been no rejection notices going out. Suspect they will go out in March timeframe.

One other data point. For those College Programmers who completed their first semester and submitted grades for the 4 year NROTC scholarship, their selection rate right now is 86%, which is obviously very high. Going forward, folks will be taking a hard look at this because in one sense, we can really tell who was dedicated to NROTC and got good college grades, but on the other, is it really fair in the process to have college freshmen competing against HS seniors? I don't have an answer myself, but it's something people are jaw-boning over.

So, I hope those of you who follow this get some good news this week, and if you hear nothing, that can still be good news but of course you are still on pins and needles.

And now, I am heading back to grade papers. Happy Super Bowl Sunday!

Good Morning Capt Myers Sir,
Thanks again for all the info and insight. You are amazing resource on this forum for parents like myself.
Bravo-Zulu Sir 👍⚓
I heard they were giving automatic scholarships to anyone who spelled my name with two "e" s if they did it before 1245 eastern time. Darn the luck 😁

CAPT Meyers, I appreciate the update. Never realized that agonizing over a DS/DD scholarship or appointment could be so hard. Certainly seemed easier to endure it personally some 40 years ago. You are saving us psychiatric dollars by the consistent flow of info. Thanks, now get back to grading and have a great weekend.

Apologies Capt Meyers. I work with a Myers so I’m used to that spelling. I have trouble telling apart crayon colors as well you know “magenta-red”

lol…as a fellow Gamecock, appreciate the color correction. And also the information you provide to applicants and parents - outstanding.

just a comment on what you and your colleagues are pondering re College Programmers and whether it is “fair“ for college freshmen to compete with HS seniors. I have spent over 20 years as a volunteer for my undergraduate college Admissions office interviewing high school students and watching them mature as college freshmen. Many are applicants for ROTC scholarships who don’t receive an award in high school, but remain committed to becoming an officer through ROTC. Without a doubt that first semester in college is a significant challenge and differentiator, both as to commitment to their studies and ROTC. I think being able to evaluate the student in person and how they react and handle themselves is a distinct benefit to the military services. I hope the NROTC program continues to reserve a significant number of scholarships for those students who stand out during that crucial first semester. Regards

For Glen and Captain Meyers -so of the 1000 total (is that the correct number of NROTC) what is the rough breakdown of College Programmers versus high school seniors? It's just interesting how high the acceptance rate is (which makes sense as they have already committed to and are excelling in the program). The one thing I will mention for high school seniors is that at the very competitive colleges, winning the scholarship is a tip factor in admissions (particular at Harvard for example which basically sets aside 5 or so slots for ROTC kids who win the scholarship and list Harvard). That's why some of us have been beating down the doors as winning the NROTC scholarship would be a huge tip at the student's top schools. it does not good to win the scholarship in late March or April after the student has been turned down if that makes sense. that's why my fingers and toes are crossed for my DS

Unfortunately, I don't think there is an easy way to determine the number of 4/C programmers competing for the 4 year scholarships. We would have to pulse each unit to see how many they put forward. For me, we sent 8 for GWU, and 2 of those were also successful USNA noms. Waiting to hear about the other 6 which I think were in this late January board. And part of the delay in sensing out the NROTC results has been more students have delayed their package submittals. That does prove challenging for the smaller and more selective NROTC units like Harvard or Yale, but if someone gets selected, it won't be that terrible if they get a free 4 years at a non Ivy League.

Very much appreciate the updates, Capt Meyers. Our young man checked in with his regional point of contact just to see if his app (submitted early December) might have a decision forthcoming because college applications allow for a mid-February update with grades and any other updates. He was told that he would have a decision by April. A true statement I'm sure (as all applications would be disposed of one way or another by then) but had us worried that maybe something was wrong with it or maybe his matching schools are some of the Ivys and that might make it harder to place him? Of course I suggested he ask a follow up, but he let me know he is trusting the process (wish I were so zen about it)!. Thanks for keeping us nail biting parents posted!

And here I am replying to my own message. Guess I should have asked, is there any benefit to reaching out to the unit at the top selected schools? interview was done at the matching school that is closest to our home base, but wasn't sure if that is sufficient or if he should be checking in at each one he is hoping to match with?

Before I answer, were you thinking you would make the call? Or your son? It wouldn't hurt to see if they have heard anything. As I understand the processes now, emails are sent out as soon as the list of selectees gets entered into the databases. All the PNS's will see the selection list, but we tend to focus on our college (colleges in my case).

Well this would be me trying to encourage him to call, which he's reluctant to do because he says the process is the process and he doesn't want to add to their workload if it wouldn't be useful to try reaching out. His interview at the local school went well and with a near 1600 and lots of advanced math and science and athletics he is hopeful but not overconfident. I was just surprised to hear that he got the response that it would be April before he hears back. Thought maybe that had something to do with waiting for school outcomes because he didn't do early decision anywhere.

For some units, if they are really busy, the easy answer is "you'll hear by April." That's absolutely true, although they try to send out notices after each board.

I hear you - we've been having the same issue - my son has Ivies on his list, perfect ACT score, lots of leadership, high grades, submitted back in October and still have not heard. Our original regional guy (who retired) said he was a top applicant back in August and the strongest in our region but we still haven't heard. Because regular round at the Ivies have sub 5% admit rates, winning the scholarship for sure would "tip" them into their top 1-2 choices but if it comes in April, it will be too late. So I'm with you biting my nails waiting for tomorrow to see if my DS is in this last board. Just not sure why he wasn't in an earlier one since he submitted on the early side....

So.......not trying to get people overly anxious or excited or anything, but with true irony, I just had one of my Mids who circles around me like a shark say "Sir.....did you already hear?" And judging from my quizzical look, he just grinned and said....."I got it.....I just got word I got selected." Figures I am the last to know.

At any rate, the emails are starting to trickle out now.

And before anyone says it, yes I know, I said Wednesday. I also said that they try to make me look silly and release them early, and so, there you go. The good news is that your DS and DD's are all in school and they can't check the website
