I have recieved an appointment from West Point. Does anyone know how long I have to respond and accept? I'm still holding out and considering Annapolis and I want to wait until I've visited both to make a final decision. There was nothing with by appointment that told me when to respond by but I want to make sure the appointment is not resicinded if I wait too long. Thanks
 
You have until May 1. Please do not wait that long; if you do choose to attend another school, letting them know early allows them to fill your place with someone who desperately wants to be there. My son was in the same position as you last year at this time: he had his USMA appointment around Thanksgiving, but didn't get to visit USNA until Feb (he had an appt to USNA by that time as well). I made him wait to respond (although I knew he loved USMA). He returned form USNA and mailed his "yes, I"m coming" to WP, and his "no, thanks" to USNA. You have to figure out what meets your needs as far as your future goals as an officer. It's not always an easy decision.

As a swim/dive mom, I hope to see you at WP next season! Best wishes as you figure out what is best for you!
 
Thanks. As soon as I know where I'm going I'll make sure to decline the others. I wouldn't want to make anyone wait longer than necessary for the big envelope.

Wait as long as YOU need to decide, do not rush it to fit someone else's timetable.

YOU earned the appointments, YOU earned the right to contemplate YOUR future up to May 1 if needed.

I agree 100%.
If you haven't made a candidate visit to West Point try and visit. You are eligible for an overnight visit. Ditto to USNA. Try and attend a CVW.
Make sure you make the correct decision for YOU.
 
My son's experience: USMA in the fall (I just went, and WOW!!!!) and USNA in a February ice storm. Now, he'll get to experience the WP ice storm as a plebe! :shake:
