Restaurant for Parent's Weekend

Any recommendation for a place for dinner on Saturday or Sunday of Parent's Weekend. DS probably would prefer steak.:biggrin:
 
Burton and Doyle's and Morton's. Both have donated food to the Academy also, so tell them that you are there because of their generosity to Kings Point. But bring your checkbook.
 
Rothmann's

We went to Rothmann's. If I remember correctly, it took about a half hour to get there. Booked an 8:00 table to give us time to not have to rush. Since it rained most of the day and then the football game went into OT, it was nice to go back to our hotel, change into dry, nice clothes and then go out to dinner. We were the only family there w/ a mid so DS wasn't too stressed out. DS had a big old steak. :thumb:

Made arrangements to stay later at the hotel so DS could sleep in. As we were getting ready to turn in for the night, he asked if we could go into NYC the next day. Had a great time checking out the bus, LIRR and train schedules so that he knew what he was doing for future trips to the city.

Can't believe it's been 2 years already!

My thoughts exactly! Where have two years gone? DS is out at sea, so we won't be at Parents' Weekend until 2012.

DS likes seafood, so we went to a place in Port Washington that had coupons in Wiley Hall that morning. But for steak, I'd second Luigi's recommendation of Peter Luger.
 
Just heard the alumni has provided a steak dinner tonight at KP! Was it from Peter Lugars Steak House?

If you are staying east of the academy you might try Bryant & Cooper in Roslyn
.. corner of Northern Blvd and Middleneck Road. I can recommend it.

Quick and Delicious

Excellent choices have been posted for dinner. Here are some of our favorites for a quick snack or lunch. Right in Great Neck there are two places (almost next door to each other) that we love.
"Best Bagels" is just that the best bagels I have ever had. http://www.yelp.com/biz/best-bagels-great-neck
Then there is "Bruce's" http://www.brucesbakery.com/
They are a bakery and restaurant with a menu as thick as a phone book...the homemade coleslaw can't be beat.
Parking out front on Middle Neck Road can be tricky, took us a while to notice there is a parking lot out back and a backdoor to enter for each restaurant.
 
We're thinking about doing a picnic lunch on Saturday after the parade. Any suggestions for a deli with great sandwiches, etc for take-out? (Prefer something close to the academy.)
 
Thanks for the suggestions! I was looking at the link for Bruce's Bakery while you were posting your reply. OMG...I am so hungry now!
 
Just called Hubby and told him I need "a Bruce's fix" He LOVES the Reuben sandwich on an everything bagel from Best Bagels. Countdown to parents weekend...maybe we will even swing by KP and see the boy while we are in town :biggrin:
 
Parents Weekend

Bruce's is amazing! For breakfast, the basket of pastries is to die for. Bruce's will even put a basket of pastries together or any other food and deliver it to USMMA for a $5.00 fee.

LaGiocanda is great...pricey, but great. I would recommend reservations there.

Thank you all for your great suggestions, if we do Parent's Weekend and drive the 5 hours for all the home football games we should be able to try them all. Unfortunately that will probably means we'll have gained 20 pounds by Christmas.:shake:

Luigi, I agree but the "new location in Great Neck" has been there for over 50 years, of course the original Peter Lugar's in Brooklyn is much older than that...

Also it isn't cheap and for those of us who want the same steak but prefer to use credit cards ... we go into Manhattan and go to Wolgang's on Madison Ave between 31'st and 32'nd. Wolfgang used to be the Chef at the Great Neck Peter Lugars before he opened this venue.
 
Peter Lugers is great for that special occasion and for the experience. There is also a NY Diner 7 Seas where you can get anything from a steak to eggs. We went to Scobee often but it is now closed. There are wonderful Brazillian steak houses in Jackson Heights Queens which is only 20 min away.

7 Seas has been there on Northern Boulevard for quite some time. I remember flying out to Indoc in '77 and catching a ride from LaGuardia on Long Island Limousine and being dropped off with a couple of other PPCs at the diner. Nice walk down Middleneck Road to the hotel to familiarize oneself with the summer Long Island humidity. You know, I don't recall if I ever ate there, though.
 
DS would like to go into the city during parents weekend (Saturday) and go to a restaurant on the water (in NYC)......Any ideas???
 
You could try The Water Club. Beautiful views and impeccable service but definitely pricey. (Everything in NYC is expensive.)

It's a great spot and will be memorable!
PS- You will need to make a reservation for a Saturday night. You can try the Crow's nest on the top deck for a more casual meal and atmosphere too.
