DS's Ring Dance date asked me what kinds of dresses the girls wear to the Ring Dance. Are they mostly long or do some where shorter cocktail dresses. Weigh in USNA moms! We need advice! Thanks. Also, any other Ring Dance tips would be appreciated.

Why don't you ask your question on the threads of the actual academy your DS goes to. I think you will get some feedback that way. :thumb:

Go Long

My daughter went to the NA Ring Dance last year and most of the dates were in long dresses. Out of 15 couples that she went with, only 2 were in short dresses. (I just checked the photos). Hope your son and his date have a fantastic time!

Most wear long dresses, I would say 75% or more wear long. It is a long day and night usually with drinks, dinner, lines for pictures, dancing, fireworks and after parties. Be prepared for a long night in heels and a formal dress. It is a fun and memorable night. Take lots of pictures.

And many USNA wear Fomal rather than the "required" Dress.:thumb:

Ring dance is the most formal dance of your 4 yrs at USNA (or whatever SA one attends). All of the SA women will be in mess dress, which is long. Styles obviously change over time but, unless long is really "out" in a fashion sense, I would go long.

You can also check with the Protocol Office at the SA; they will say "formal" but should also be able to tell you the prevailing interpretation of this standard.
