Hello! I am a Rising Junior and it has been my lifelong dream to attend USNA/NROTC. I have a peanut allergy, which I understand is an automatic medical disqualification. I was prescribed an EpiPen, but I've never had to use it, and I haven't had any reaction to peanuts in over 5 years. Recently, I was able to have my allergy waived for an NJROTC program that disqualifies applicants with peanut allergies based on a note my doctor wrote for me.

I was wondering if there is anything I can do now to better my chances of having my allergy waived? I'm considering immunotherapy, and I have heard about others who have done it to have their allergies waived. Does anyone have any experience with immunotherapy? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance :)

Our DS had to have a waiver for his peanut allergy. Likely 99.8% you will not be medically approved by DODMERB and will need the same waiver, IF (big if)the academy requests one. Go to DODMERB’s website and read “Questions on the process”. This will help a lot.

Without getting into the weeds too much in answering your question here is what you’ll likely need and encounter.

1. DODMERB will find you not medically fit.
2. The service academy or academies will have to request a waiver for you, if you are a competitive applicant in their review.
3. You will need to do blood work, skin prick test and do an oral consumption test.

This is a long and drawn out process so get you physical done early. You’ll be working on waiver appointments and testing for 1-2 months. DS completed his physical in early August 21’ and was finally waived in February 22’.

Not all cases and requirements are the same. What happened for your DS...was for your DS.
That may or may not be the course of action for others, hence the offer to doglover45 to communicate directly with me:wiggle:
