Roller coaster I: Get You (The Parents) Through Plebe Year - Class of ‘27 🎢

Hi. Do the plebes get to spend the night away from the USNA during the plebe parents visit in August? We were wondering what time away from the academy do first year students receive?

Nope, nada, no overnight PPW. Usually have to be back ~2300.

They get a few overnights but not many. Overnights can be earned in various ways and vary by company, circumstances, Football wins, grades, conduct, whim of the 'Dant. Your Plebe will be able to figure it out.

No overnights on PPW. But, as @LT360 said, there are ways for kids to earn weekends. Mine seemed to be a whiz as it, so much so that his upperclass joked that, "C---er, you might as well be a civilian, as you are never here on the weekend!"

A bit of an exaggeration from them, but, I think he earned/took around 6 weekends each semester. Plebes start off with one available per semester, I believe. And as mentioned, his GF was within the town liberty radius, so a lot of time spent with her.

For this year's PPW 2027, only the Color company for PS earned an overnight.

Our DS was able to earn 3 weekends and 2 extra for football wins this fall semester. Not sure how he got the 3 this fall semester. I never asked him.

Kid said they got one for standing out in the rain for a parade. And if you are on the Dant's or Supe's list for grades during each 6 week exam period, you typically get one or two.

Do all weekends expire at the end of semester? Are any of the weekends bankable for next semester?

Exactly this.

The only photograph I have of any president in my house is of President Clinton holding my daughter as a baby.
My brother has a picture shaking President Reagan’s hand in front of the Paris Embassy in his dress blues. Was always jealous of that one. I don’t think I even have a picture in my blues.

I have a picture of my so. Shaking the presidents hand, at his commissioning from USNA.

THATS pretty cool 😎

Perhaps a current Mid can chime in. Back when, weekends weren't bankable, so no carryover to the next semester. It was use or lose.

My kid told me a few days ago, he currently has 8 of them 🤯 (they got one for the recent football home win). There is not enough time to take all of those by the end of the semester, so he thinks they carry over. But ..... that might be Company dependent.

Mine is a 3/C, so a bit less restrictions on his activity. ;)

We live away from USNA. Our daughter has a late exam on Dec 19 that would cause her not to be able to get home by plane on that day. Does Bancroft close on the 19th or is it open into the 20th for out of town students travel plans? Also, is there a place for me to find this information so I don't have to ask here

Mother B is always open. Some students spend the breaks there for differing reasons. In terms of finding info, the website is where I look other than getting it from my DS or here. :rolleyes2:

... contact Public Affairs Office (PAO). Our experience with last exams only lasted around 1400 hours. By 1500, we're already driving out thru Gate 8.

Text your kid. They are the best source of info. There is the over arching schedule and then each Mid has their own schedule with watch and other obligations.

There's a whole wing dedicated to housing mids during various breaks. You kinda check in and out like a hotel. Most kids live out of their duffle bags during those times as it is too much work to unpack and re-pack.

For the Army-Navy game, would the plebes be allowed to leave their seats to visit their parents? Not sure how the whole day will go as this will be our first Army-Navy game.

Everyone has to go to the bathroom or go get something to drink…Going to sit with you? No. They are in duty status at the game. Accidental encounter in the concourse in line to but a drink?
